Moyes a heavy favourite to take over

|

David Moyes is tonight an overwhelming favourite to return to the London Stadium charged with saving our Premier League status for the second time!

But this time should he march back in he will be in a position of overwhelming strength and looks certain to get a long term contract which will take him to the end of the season and two years beyond that.

He will also demand that he has total control and will broach no interference at any level with one source telling us tonight the recruitment gurus will be turfed out as his first victims.

The club are known to have been speaking to both him and former Brighton boss Chris Hughton who at one time was seen as a possible candidate until the end of the season.

But with his previous knowledge of the club in his locker and understanding the various problems he will need to deal with Moyes is now a heavy favourite.

He will bring bring Stuart Peace with him should he arrive over the next few days -indeed there’s even a suggestion that he could be in by New Years Day and the game against Bournemouth.

Manuel Pellegrini and his team are in line for a pay off of between £7 million to £10 million.

    God no! Progression my arse!

  • Chris Thompson says:

Moyes is an absolute shambolic appt. Lost 12 games on charge last time conceding three or more goals on 8 occasions! This is embarrassing.

    • JMan says:

This just highlights the canker in the club is the owners, No ambition, minimal investment, broken promises. There is a reason Moyes is not wanted by anyone, he’s had his day and this would be another disastrous appointment, but what do G&S care we are only the 17th richest club in the world.

  • Pacific Claret says:

The lack of long term planning in this club is quite breathtaking. Moyes may save the club from relegation yet again, but is this the best we can do? Do we want to be a top 5 team in the Premier in the coming years or not?
    Apparently not.

  • Ruffellite says:

Oh No!!…not Mr Moyes…back to the future! More evidence of the board/owner’s lack of a strategic vision…and funds to compete in the PL.

    • ReggieHammer says:

Let’s just put this into perspective…..

Everton were in the same position as us 2 games ago … they go and attract an A* manager in Carlo Ancelotti … a proven winner …. West Ham go absolute bargain basement and plump for David Moyes! What am I witnessing at my beloved club :’(

    • Simon says:

Strange how the very same Moyes some writers are complaining about managed to save the club from relegation with an average team. With his coaching team of experienced men, he got the whole squad fit and off their lazy backsides – which I believe is the the core problem at WH at the present moment. Welcome back Mr Moyes, if you get chosen. God bless.

      • Hammers64 says:

Well said Simon a voice of reason at last.I thought i was alone.Remember Alan Irvine saying he was stunned at how unfit the team was when he came here with Moyes last time.Well its back to getting this lazy ,unfit lot up and running again.Perfect example is Sheff Utd who cost a fraction of our squad but would run them off the Park in the fitness stakes and thats the biggest problem along with confidence.

    • Tony says:

They had the ambition to appoint a proven winner in Pellegrini, yet look how that has turned out! If Moyes saves us and then builds on that, he could possibly get us into Europe, just like he did with Everton. Mourinho, Guardiola, Klopp, Howe, etc. etc. Were all managing when Moyes was, so how can you say that football was different when he was managing?! He only left Everton, in a strong position, 6 years ago

  • Kenny Iroñs says:

Seems the best option if the only other candidates are Pulis, Allardyce and Chris Hughton !
Can’t even believe they are talking about Hughton – three wins in last 23 games at Brighton
    I believe.
Moyes got best out of Arnautovic putting him as central striker and he at least will get us organised and competitive – you never kñow, West Ham players might even pass the ball to each other.
They’ll need to back him in the January window though, as unless we strengthen our glaring deficiencies especially in midfield, not even Houdini could save us from the drop.

  • Hammers64 says:

Fine by me.To be honest I do not know why some of our fans are against it.I wanted him to stay and said at the time we would regret hiring Pellegrini.A British manager, some Scots grit is just what we need.Howe and Dyche both struggling so there is no magic bullet or this fabled pretty football. Its what Pelle promised to bring and in reality he has let a shambolic mess that needs a pragmatist like Moyes.

  • Rocco says:

So depressing. West Ham somehow manage to turn a very good manager bad and now turn to Moyes (West Ham record won 9 lost 12). Pellegrini’s worst managerial spell was West Ham with 37%, only 5% less than Moyes at Everton which is among his best. Backwards, backwards, backwards. This will not end well.

    • Hammers64 says:

You seem to forget Rocco that Pellegrini worked with massive budgets and open cheque books at Man City and Real Madrid, a test of a good manager is working on a limited budget especially at a club like us.In reality he has left an almighty car crash of a mess that somebody now has to sort out.Blame the owners they promised us fantastic attacking football under Pellegrini and top 6 finishes and we are left with another relegation battle instead. We need stability and fight not flash managers from the continent.

  • simon says:

I would genuinely rather be relegated.

  • mark wiggins says:

MP had to go but those players need to take responsibility for a complete lack of effort. Should be playing for the fans they are a joke. I also don’t think Moyes is the answer I don’t think it would be a good appointment ! Let’s hope we get someone that won’t take crap from those players and get them working .

  • ReggieHammer says:

David Moyes?!?! … how depressingggggaagghhhhhh 🙁 … genuinely makes me depressed even saying his name out loud. Has a 29% win ratio while at West Ham. 29%!! I’m so demoralised by this. I’m going to bed

  • Jay says:

Re-hire the man who bought Hugill and gifted his old club 10 million quid! You must be having a laugh. Everton go for Ancelotti yet we are being touted as going for Moyes or Hughton. I will try keep myself sane until an appointment is announced..

  • AD says:

Having given up my ticket after last season I have been becoming almost apathetic towards West Ham during this season, almost on the verge of not caring over the past few games as each loss took us nearer to that much needed managerial change. If it’s Moyes or Hughton then all the recent pain will have been for nothing.

  • John Harrison says:

A safe pair of hands chosen by two insecure old men who are clueless. They want to ensure survival to get the best possible price when they sell. Sad but there is a chink of light in the distant future.

  • Hammerkip says:

Fine by me tbh..hopefully get some stability back plus a bit of passion with Pearce by his side ..

  • Neil from Down Under says:

    David Moyes win record…
    – Preston North End – 48.29%
    – Everton – 42.08%
    – ManU – 52.94% – Sacked
    – Real Sociedad – 28.57%
    – Sunderland – 18.60%
    – West Ham – 29.03%
Do we really want Moyes as our next Manager??

  • Hammer64 says:

He has less time than in 2017/18, so although I think this is the best realistic option I am not convinced he can work the trick again. As the article says he is in a strong position to get some cash for players if finances & FFP allow. Could also force Sullivan to make some much needed changes which could benefit the club long term. But Sullivan might not be able to stomach all that so maybe it won’t happen.

But the comments show the West Ham fan base is again more divided than the country was over Brexit. The purists have had their go & look where that got us. Let’s just see if somebody the players can understand is able to get them playing as a team. Anybody who can get them doing the basics right & working their socks off for the fans & for each other will be ok by me. For the rest of this season let’s just settle for survival.

  • The Honest Friend says:

We Need to sort out the processes in place. Get a new Director of football with vision in first. Give him/her complete creative freedom to reshape EVERYTHING from top to bottom. I’m talking from youth to training ground, to player recruitment, to manager/coach recruitment. All the while with a specific style/tactic being directed to said manager.

It’s the only way to stop ourselves from going round and around in circles. We must wait so much money on square pegs.

Dont talk to me about the one that we already have. He needs to be picking the manager not the other way round.

  • Ken says:

Such a massive disappointment after we were promised “next level” by the owners. Surely if we are the 17th richest Club in the world and sell the 2nd highest number of Season Tickets we should be able to get a better Manager than Moyes. Yes the priority has to be survival this season but we have also got to be capable of attracting top quality players who want to play good football to ensure we don’t just go back to survival is all we aim for every season. Poch is available and would be a much better option than Moyes.

  • AD says:

If we are going to go back in time why would you pick Moyes over Bilic?

    A 29% win ratio over 38%?

5 months after being in the job Moyes took us to our lowest point ever with the loss to Burnley…when we were just above the bottom 3 with 8 games to go, hardly a magic wand waver.

Some say he saved us, but by that logic then Bilic did the year before. Bilic had to cope with the stadium unrest during move, the Payet saga, continually not backed by the board, owners son tweeting about his job, and he certainly balanced the books massively in our favour as Pellegrini got all the cash he was not allowed to spend. Moyes had a free hit.

Since then Bilic turns WBA into championship favourites for £11m but no one will touch Moyes, which includes regular rejections from Everton who have been changing manager twice per season yet still dont go for him.

I’m not saying give Bilic the job, under the circumstances it was probably best for him and us to make a change when we did. Just pointing out that he has far better credentials than Moyes if we are to reappoint anyone.

  • Spencer says:

Why is nobody talking about KOVAC?

Young, ambitious and tactically astute. Oh and available and therefore relatively cheap, surely music to the owners ears?

  • Gary says:

Can’t wait for the likes of Moyes Pearce Irwin etc to come back and inject some discipline and hard work back into them and put a rocket up these overpaid foreign mercenaries. Forget the silly statistics on Moyes. Let’s just say we was a much better team when he left us than we was when he joined us.

  • Michael says:

Those talking about Ancelotti need a serious reality check. The club are in absolute disarray so there is no way someone of his caliber would sign on. Now is also not the time for a manager without Premier League experience, so that only leaves a few options. If he can get them organised and playing as a team we might have a chance of staying up

  • slidingtackle says:

The League is so tight three winns will send you up the league.
Moyes is not the answer. How come he has been out of the game since he left us 2 years ago.
    FFS
try Enzo Marecsa and Dmitri Halajko – no Game for them until Jan 6th.

  • Hammer64 says:

Win ratios means jack ****. Pellegrini’s were good at Man C. In fact Moyes has the second best win ratio at Man U after SAF ( better than Mat Busby). Suspect our owners were massively impressed by the stats for Pellegrini & Avram Grant -look what that’s led to. An earlier comment made the point that you have to look at what a manager has achieved in relation to the calibre of the players he managed. A lot of the managers who have done well as ‘firefighters’ have what look like poor win ratios because they have had to bail out rubbish sides.

  • simon says:

Moyes will be another short term appointment and will not succeed unless your sole measure of success is survival, in which case he may achieve that, simply by getting the players to run more. However his appointment will not solve the fundamental problem at the club, in that it is run by the Board, particularly Sullivan, and they get involved in everything. Despite whatever business acumen they have elsewhere they are complete failures at running football clubs and should not be doing it.

If we genuinely want to move forward we need to find our own Ferguson, Wenger etc. to build the club around. Moyes isn’t that man. Right now, a short term appointment should be made, and at the same time a search begun for that person, that search not involving GSB as they simply have no talent for picking the right person.

What has happened to WHU in the last 10 years has been sickening. It shows no sign of changing. We simply lurch from one crisis to the next with nothing resembling a well thought out plan for taking the club forward. Brady is clueless as a CEO, unless it’s about saving money on bog roll or suck like, she offers no strategic vision for the club. Sullivan appears to treat the whole thing as a vanity project, with decision making made on the basis of how well it reflects on him in the short term, and Gold is errr Gold, he was born on Green St.

  • Dusty Miller says:

Can’t believe how many supporters think West Ham should be managed by a 5 star manager when in reality we are a 2 star team??? If the owners would like to think you can make a silk purse out of what we’ve got as a pigs ear 2 star team that they have acquired in the transfer market. As they might have thought with Pellegrini or any other manager of high repute that maybe could get our players up to the next level ? Get real people It ain’t gonna happen?? Basics first, get the team up to what any decent manager would want to take over so you need a motivator who can take our team up a couple of stars
not a manager that’s used to a open check book which clearly our owners aren’t!!!!!

  • Spotted Dog says:

Moyes making all sorts of hardball demands? He’s in no position to play hard to get. I’d much rather have Pochettino or Rafah.
