Moyes all set for new Hammers contract

CandH Exclusive by Hugh Southon

David Moyes will land himself a new two or three year deal as Hammers boss at Christmas assuming the Irons get away to a reasonable start to the season.

Having all but ensured Premier League safety, the manager has already been busying himself watching possible transfer target for the 2020/21 season which is due to kick off on September 12.

And ClaretandHugh learned today that the manager is well on course for a new deal at the end of the 12 month contract he agreed with the club on the sacking of Mnuel Pellegrini.

The new boss will have saved the Irons from relegation on two separate occasions and assuming a decent start to the 20/21 campaign can pursue his aim of building a youthful and energetic team over the next two or three years.

A ClaretandHugh source inside the London Stadium made it clear that the Scottish boss was certain to land a new deal given that reasonable start.

The board always allow manager deals to run to their conclusion but we understand that all being well Moyes will be offered his new deal around Christmas.

I agree with Kevin. I Normally I go off managers over a period of time. With moyes it’s different. It’s the opposite. The geezer has grown on me. I’m impressed by the way he turned us round both times. The first time the way he improved the players. The way he took a seemingly disinterested winger in Arnoutavic and turned him into a world beater of a striker. The way he’s done the same with Antonio this time round. The way he has a track record and is known in the game for improving the players he has to work with. If they want to work hard and improve then he will work with them. If they’re lazy then they’re out the door. The way he intends to create a team of young hard working players and has already made a start with Bowen and Souchek. The best two signings we have made in many a moon. No it’s moyes all the way for me. I’m also old enough to remember the terrific work he did at Everton for many years on a small budget. I hope he’s our manager now for many years.

I think he should be given a two year rolling contract, he definitely deserves his chance, I think he is better than he was when he was at Everton because he has experienced so much but the game has changed to this high pressing game so it will be interesting to see if the style of game we play and players we buy adapt to that. I genuinely can’t see us better than mid-table next season without significant investment. If Rice goes he needs to tie Soucek down to be our Captain, ideally Rice and Soucek will be tied down and we can build a squad around them, they can be our Petit and Viera, we do have quality at the club but we need to prove that over a season. Lets be honest the there is now a top 8 Liverpool, City, Utd, Chelski, Leicester, Tottenham, Arsenal, Wolves, next season Leeds might do a Sheffield Utd, Newcastle may have an Arab ownership so we may be 10th at best… Moyes can operate on a budget and with our current owners he might be the most qualified, I really enjoyed watching his celebration with Rice when he scored it was natural and the players seem to be forging a real bond, looking forward to seeing how they play against Utd now they are pretty much safe, COYI !!!

If the board don’t back Moyes now, after him digging the club out of the mire for the second time, that’s me done with West Ham. Sick and tired of the ‘big club’ delusion and knee-jerk, hit and hope punts at the big time. It’s time to invest in a coherent, sustainable strategy with someone who knows how to manage and build a successful team with limited resources.

Moyes is the guy for the job; the board should acknowledge this. And, by the way, whoever is starting rumours about possible other managers coming in should stop it now. Sean Dyche? Don’t make me laugh.

  • I’m not a west ham fan I supported Everton for all the years David Moyes was their manager.
Everton were in exactly the same position that West Ham find themselves in at the moment.
He saved them from a relegation dog fight and over 12 years took them to European football and fa cup finals.
Over those 12 years he had very little money to spend in fact overall he cost the club £1 million a year after all the buys in and out.
You know when a manager is special when your in a pub which is buzzing before a game and your manager comes on the tv and within a second the pun I’d deathly quiet !
That’s what those fans thought of David Moyes.
It was a special time over those 12 years watching Everton.
They were tough, they were professional,
They were exciting, and they would fight from the whistle to the end of the game.
You West Ham fans who criticise David Moyes have no idea what you are talking about.
Given the opportunity he will turn West Ham around. He is very hard working , will find you young talent for very little money and will give you supporters something finally to shout about.
Get behind him and stop criticising him and mark my words he will turn it around.

From New West Ham fan !

I think Moyes is the right person for the job. He knows how to toughen the lads up a bit. We will be fine next season if he is given enough time to do just that.

  • The Cat says:

Not only does Moyes deserve a proper contract, I have nothing but admiration and respect for him, to come back to our club after being dumped. He put in the work with a broken group of someone else’s players to clinch Premiership survival.
I believe he feels that this club can match his ambitions and has the potential to achieve what any ambitious manager would want to achieve in the game. That in itself has to say something about the manager we now have at our club….rather than a payday manager who only recognises the fact that we are a club based in London.

  • ozzdog says:

Totally agree Moyes has saved our club twice and both times with previous managers squads. No manager in history has signed players that don’t work out but Moyes has signed two bloody good ones in Soucek and Bowen with a few more youngsters with promise and maybe one or two experience signings who can not only help the youngsters progress and help strengthen the squad he done it at Everton so I think he deserves a chance

  • Big Shep says:

Whether you are pro or anti moyes – everyone has to agree he deserves a chance? He’s kept us up twice when certain for relegation and should at least get a summer and half a season to see what he can do? Young, energetic British players who are on sensible wages? Yes please Moysey!

  • Keny Irons says:

Agree 100% with Kevin – twice he’s dug us out of the mire with another manager’s players – give the bloke a chance as he does know a player 👍

  • Kevin says:

Definitely something very wrong with this club if Moyes isn’t given his well deserved chance .
They shat on him for a so-called proven international & Italian high profile manager and then went cap in and to save us yet again .
GIVE HIM HIS CHANCE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD . It’ll be hard to find an improvement on Moyes given our recent form and league position . But having said that ; just who would be better ?? , Dyche , Howe , Pearson , … people that want Moyes out are to my mind just plain moaning or moaning for moaning sake with no real respect for what this team has just achieved .

    • Glydey says:

A starter for 10 – He has the worst record of any west ham manager in premier league history.

Just being better than Pelligrini does not make you suitable for a job.

We have been useless in all but 4 of his games this time round…..

He deserves a chance to keep us up again?? Or are we going to properly aim higher for once with a Pochettino or a young and hungry manager with more of a plan than buying a tall player and have Antonio launch long throws.

      • ljd1980 says:

The ‘promise less deliver more’ interview he have before the Watford game was the most sensible and honest interview a West Ham manager has given in decades. Only those with delusions of grandeur could expect we would get a better manager than Moyes was at Everton. I’d like to see him have a go at building an Everton-type team at West Ham.

    • The Cat says:

      100% Agree Kevin

    • ozzdog says:

Kevin mate you have stated what I have said to many of our supporters . I have mates who do not stop moaning about the manager and players such as our great captain if he has a off day. I think Moyes has earned the chance to build his own squad he did at Everton and done a more than decent job there they have not repeated or improved on it since but spent over 340 million in the last two years.
