Moyes deal 95 per cent done as club ready announcement

David Moyes looks set to be announced as the new West Ham boss tomorrow (Mon).

There’s an outside chance that it could come sooner but our understanding is that the club’s media team are likely to make the worst kept secret in football public by tomorrow.

And the likelihood is that the Scot will be on the training ground with the players at the same time and all set to oversee the first game of his new spell in charge against Bournemouth on New Year’s Day.

Moyes has been the favoured candidate for several weeks as the overlong Pellegrini drama was allowed to drag on by the board but we understand from sources is that the final touches to the deal are being completed at this moment.

And Moyes is now 95 per cent to take over at the club on what is believed to be a one and a half year deal which will carry a big bonus for saving the club from relegation this season.

We have also learned that Manuel Pellegrini was sacked within 15 minutes of the final whistle and was escorted from the stadium by security staff last night.

  1. Absolutely the right decision. Should never have been let go in the first place. Moyes inherited a mess last time and did a good job. He immediately identified a lack of fitness and discipline and by the end of his tenure the club was looking solid and performing well. Some people on these boards are underestimating the trouble we are in right now. Moyes will have an even harder job keeping us up but I believe he will be up to it and survival will do for me this season. Then he should be rewarded with a nice long contract and asked to build. But it is survival first and the club and the fans should welcome him back and get behind him and the team! A good, no brainer decision!

    • Agreed. Time to stop dreaming about impossible candidates, and impossible players. And time to get behind the manager.

    • There seems to be this myth building up about what a great job he did. we won 9 games from 31. We conceded a shed load of goals. The football was often dire. People are not considering at all the reasons why no-one has given him a job in the past year and a half.

I can see the obvious attraction of appointing him but the price is a longer contract and the continued downward spiral of the club. He is not the man to build the club around.

To be honest though, it doesn’t really matter. The sickening malaise at the club has very little to do with who is the manager at any given time. It is the vanity project of a rank incapable, egomaniacal amateur, and that isn’t going to change whether it’s Moyes or anyone else.

    • Martin I have to agree with you if I’m honest. David Moyes did what he was asked. Some say he didn’t set the world alight but you have to consider the mess he inherited and also in the knowledge it was only to the end of the season. He could have take the money and did nothing. I believe David Moyes is a good man with good ethics.
If I’m also brutally honest – I’ve had my fill of foreign managers – all have come with big reputations and produced very little but a mess.

    • Think you have selective memory Martin, his 29% win average is worse than MPs. He is definitely not the man to bud a football team around and is so indecisive in the transfer market

  2. Laughable. Absolutely laughable.
Manu, Real S, S.land and WHU – Sacked!

And now we hire this fraud again? The owners are begging the fans to start another march!
And im sure it will come…

    • Wonder what a march would achieve. You may be right but it will do no good

      • I think at a certain point enough is enough.
There has been so many single circumstances when fans have been letting down. Maybe just showing your discontent during a march gives the fans a sense of a United feeling.
Another this is a distant hope that G&S Will sell up. I know there are a lot of fans wishing for just that.
And to be honest, they need to connect to the clubs fanbse. And a march will make them listen, wether they acknowledge it or not.

    • Every manager gets sacked eventually so not much of an argument there plus he left us after a short term contract and was not sacked.I think a lot of this anger is about other issues within the club as a whole and should not be directed at Moyes.I have listed below why we are unlikely to get the people some of our fans seem to want.

  3. The club does not deserve the fans it has , hope we get relegated with that idiot . The owners should sell up ,I give up with the board this is such a bad appointment I really hope fans abandon games and show their displeasure and hit them in the pocket where it hurts. I am furious .

    • You hope we get relegated…really. You call yourself a fan and make a statement like that.
I get it you don’t like the board and moyes but if we get relegated it would be a disaster.Who knows we could go in freefall and end up like sunderland in division one.

      • Escorted from the stadium by security staff.
Another sign of our board lacking class and humanity.
No good reason not to let him have 10 minutes to say goodbye to the players if he wanted. Why security staff, was he going to fill his pockets with paper clips or hack the club’s great IT system?

    • Sad lack of ambition. Still, a part of me can understand. 18 months isn’t so bad. Keep us up, pay him off again in the summer, try again with someone more worthy of lofty ambitions. Might not have worked with Pelle/Husillos but at least the board tried. When you fall off the bike you don’t give up, you get back on and try harder

    • Nobody should hope our team fails. No matter what you think of the owners, or the manager. Personally, I would prefer Guardiola, and Messi. But we live in the real world. Time to get behind the team, and not hope they fail.

    • It will not hurt their pockets because all the season tickets have been sold so they are laughing at the moment, the only way to stop them is for everyone to NOT RENEW their season tickets for next season, but you and I both know that will never happen.

    • Mark Wiggins take a minute and read slowly what you just wrote, now do us a favor go bang your head against the wall!

I honestly can’t believe you wrote that! Don’t call yourself a supporter of this football club.

  4. I’m done with this joke of a club. Taken us backwards. Disgrace even thinking about Moyes. Get out of our club. You’re anything but fans.

    • Feel yer pain and anger Peter, gave my season ticket up 2 years ago after having one for 30 years all because of this board mate.
They are solely responsible for ripping the heart out of this club when we left Upton Park,it was the worst thing that ever happened to this once great club the day those shisters got there hands on us,they ain’t fans, just used us as there cash cow and I’m afraid as long as they are pulling the strings here we ain’t ever going to do anything.
We are West Ham United not West Ham London,

  5. Moyes as manager, Sullivan doing transfers

The winning combo that lead to Burnley at home

  6. As said elsewhere, nobody has mentioned him or offered him a job in 18 months, why do we?
He has that loser tag sticking on his forefront. I hope he doesn’t get appointed, there MUST be better than him on the market…

    • Everton were very close to appointing him b4 Napoli sacked Ancelotti.Did you say this when he saved us from relegation last time. How about a seance and see if we can contact Ron Greenwood or John Lyall because i have not heard one complainer come up with a credible alternative.Be careful what you wish for as the Pellegrini disaster has proved.

      • You still haven’t answered why nobody has given him a job in 2 years, he most definitely is not the answer to our problems

  7. I hope they don’t parade him on the pitch v Bournemouth, the response will be hilarious, this is a very sad appointment

  8. It is what it is. Back the club now or stay away and out of it. We have a season to rescue, don’t need additional nonsense whilst we concentrate on that.

  9. Absolutely the wrong decision. Statistically he’s the worst West Ham manager ever and therefore wasn’t good enough the first time, so his contract was rightly not renewed. He has not somehow improved whilst being out of work since then, has not done anything of merit since Everton. This fact illustrates the point that only West Ham are stupid enough to reverse their own original correct decision. The only reasons he’s been appointed is to “do a job” of avoiding relegation and he’s cheap! No ambition for the future, just such a backward step!

  10. 100% the right decision.Said it earlier when i was having a bit of a rant.It was never going to be Howe,Wilder or Dyche as we are halfway through the season.Benitez ? sorry but Bruce is doing a better job than he did with pretty much the same players . Nico Kovac has been working with world class players at one of the biggest clubs in the world so highly unlikely and as for Pochettino i think its too soon after his Spurs hoofing and he probably needs more time to lick his wounds. One thing is for sure if Pearce and Irvine come with him as before our squad will be a lot fitter without a doubt.Think you touched on his dithering over transfers Hugh but surely everybody connected with the club knows where we need to strengthen come January.

  11. Moyes had a 29% win rate last time with the club..
Just think about that & ask yourself if this, is this a club with ambition other than to stay in the PL each year?
All this talk of backing Pellegrini in the transfer market & spending £170m sounds impressive until you factor in who’s been sold & look at the net spend.. £25m last summer. Let the entire forward line leave the club & buy Haller along with Ajeti who is no more than useless.

Everyone knew we needed a solid back up keeper, CD, DM & another striker… we got none of them

  12. 15 million Pellegrini pay off, only 1 reason Moyes is the boards choice (not the fans) hes cheap & wont demand a transfer budget. Expect a very quiet transfer window. COYI..

  13. To me it’s not the end of the world, not ideal but could have been a lot worse. Moyes has been there, seen it and done it for us before and deserved longer in the job last time before we were all swayed with the Pellegrini appointment.
Just hope he can sort out our leaky defence and put the confidence back into the team and also recognise Haller needs help up front. Also get rid of Sanchez, Roberto and Wilshire- never good signings

    • Moyes only ever plays one up front Martyn, so not good news for Haller and us. Poor lazy lacking vision appointment

  14. What a joke
9 wins in 31 games last time at West Ham and sacked at his last four clubs. Like Redknapp, Allardyce, Pulis and Pardew he has done the merry go round and never won a thing.
Wonder if he’ll bring back his signing Hugill?

  15. A backward step in regards to progress,we don’t need to go back to a manager who had been with us before, need to move forward with a young progressive manager like Eddie Howe,Kovac etc or even Sean Dyche.

    • Priority is to stabilise the club and get far away from drop zone. Moyes is the only proven manager available that’s done that for us. He knows the club and most players so will have a head start over Howe etc and the unknown Kovac. The time to consider other managers is at the end of the next season if we are unhappy with Moyes then.

  16. Not to mention his signing of Evra – more of the same quality signings over the next few weeks

  17. Not Happy with this one.

    What’s the long term plan?

    Is there even a plan?

  18. Would not have chosen Moyes but not really sure who else we could have got to come in quickly and we need results now. I hope Moyes can get a tune out of the team because they look short of confidence, ideas, any shape, any game plan. We stuck with MP too long, we all know that, he should have gone 6-8 weeks ago. Now we face a scrap to try and get away from the bottom three. And on the team just remember how much they get paid to turn up every week and with some exceptions they have not shown any commitment, passion, effort so save a few of the bullets for them.

  19. There is quality in the team, just need to use it appropriately. Rice is a fullback. He might pair nicely with Diop. Masuaku is an attacking midfielder. Antonio prefers to play from the left. There is no holding midfielder currently. One of quality would remedy much of what ails us. We don’t need the world’s best; just solid, reliable, resilient and hardworking.

Walking M. Pellegrini of the grounds was disgraceful, if true. Reflects poorly on the club.

If WHU is relegated I will still support them, and find an alternate team to follow in EPL (not from London) while WHU regroups.

  20. I personally think it would be handy to bring in a coaching team that’s worked with at least two thirds of our present players and having to hit the ground running, ? Time is of the essence at this time of the season? There are of course some very good choices of coaches out there but have any of them made a indication where they would like to be? The truth is in the ” fish tank ” of the premier league the Hammers are and have been in all my life middle to bottom feeders so to speak . So no I don’t get delusions of grandeur like some of the other bloggers on this site going for some of the big name coaches they seemed to think would drop every thing to manage West Ham ? The team aren’t five star material so why would a five star manager want to manage West Ham without a open check book? We simply aren’t that kind of club? Get real people Moyes’s team are what we can afford and what we probably are gonna need at this time.

    • Don’t think it’s delusions of grandeur as such, I’m 53 and have always known us as everyone’s favourite underdog and every now and again we’d give one of the big boys a bloody nose. I think deep down most of us know Moyes or someone like him is as good as we’re likely to get. It’s more the constant lies and the self publicising pats in the back from the three stooges that’s the real issue here. Look at Wolves, Leicester, even the three clubs below us and you’ll see honesty, effort and integrity from their respected boards and it travels down to the pitch. We have a dodgy Del & Rodney set up, slapping filler over a clapped out Ford Escort and telling us it’s a Ferrari. Not only that, they sold our home, pocketed the money and are now threatening to hand the club down to their siblings

  21. All too predictable appointment.
As others have said , 9 wins in 31 last time .
I’m convinced that most managers are finished at 55 .
Only hope is that he keeps us up and is removed at the end of the season .
Then we need a vibrant younger manager with new ideas .

  22. I have stated on here before (ever since his contract was not extended that I think that he deserved to be given a chance) so I will support his appointment. As others have said there is no chance that Kovac would join us. Bilic is a good manager except that he couldn’t get the players fit – Moyes and team will certainly do that

I think that the best statistic in the PL to use to evaluate a manager is average number of points per game – and on that Statistic I think that Moyes didn’t do too badly – and certainly better than Pelle’s avearge of 1 point per game this season

We can judge at the end of the season – and it will be interesting to see if Howe manages to keep Bournemouth up this season

On transfers – I remember Stuart Pearce saying that Evra was a great influence in the dressing room – so I don’t think he should be slated for that one

  23. We are in big trouble if we are thinking of appointing Moyes, the majority of the fans do not want him so the minute things go wrong which they will do with Moyes then we are in a toxic environment which will lead to relegation. I just cant phathom the appointment and to be honest I thought our board would have a plan in place for a top manager to come in. I have been a supporter of the board but I will struggle to support them if they decide to appoint Moyes. There are better managers in the championship.

  24. This is past a joke, why is all the time, a sad decline of everyone’s second club, might as well rebrand as honest Dave’s ammers, replace the hammer with a rabbit and be done with it. A horrible couple of skips, backed up by a bad Thatcher wanna be. A 60000 seater stadium with 20000 fans. I’ve tried to ignore the debacle and hope for something better but they’ve been allowed to destroy us, I wish nothing good on them 🤬🤬

  25. This sums up where this club is now going under Sullivan, Gold and Brady. Nothing more than a yo-yo club between the premier league and the championship. Everton didn’t want him back as they are a progressive club and are determined to make the next step up but Moyes is cheap and let’s face it nobody else wanted him, not even a championship club! Poor Mr Sullivan hasn’t got the money and West Ham supporters need to understand that and accept the club has peaked and is now in serious decline. It won’t be long before even Brentford become a bigger club than the Hammers. Only the sale of the club to more wealthy owners will save this club but that will never happen

  26. I think this appointment speaks volumes to the Ambitions of the owners and an admitting that they made a huge mistake in thinking big. We’ve always been a club that’s treaded water in the top division and this appointment is designed to do just that.

  27. Not happy at Moyes decision. Another cheap option from chairmen who don’t really understand fans. Would have preferred Chris Houghton or younger English manager to be honest, someone with passion but seems board are going for same old faces. Rest of season going to be tough I think. Will try to keep the faith.

    • What’s so great about Eddie Howe? Not doing great shakes with Bournemouth is he? And any success he’s had with Bournemouth is probably based on the fact he’s never known anything else BUT Bournemouth and knows Bournemouth better than anyone else. What makes you think If you take him out of his comfort zone he’d be any use at any other club. This is the same reason why successful foreign managers come here and then fail miserably.
Too many of our fans are always chasing the shiny new penny and parroting the same old mantra. It’s time we lowered our expectations, stopped clacking on about this time next year we’ll all be in Europe etc and realised it’s not as easy as that in the premier league. Anyone can beat anyone in the premier league and at the end of the day it comes down to hard work, intensity, discipline and team work. Same as it’s ever been, same as it ever will be.

  28. I’m ok with it ..he wouldn’t be my first choice but I rather him than Houghton and I certainly would rather him than pellgrini…he did ok last time and we have tried the foreign m manager, who knows he May surprise us with more time..at the very least he will get them organise d and working ..I’ve had enough now I just want to be able to watch a side with a bit of passion for the shirt again we are a long way from the next level but don’t really care now ,all I want is to watch West ham play football again..with no expectations just 90 minutes of hard work and passion for the club and maybe pick up a few wins along the way ..

  29. Unquestionably the right decision . If Moyes can save our season , again , then who can honestly complain . There was in reality no alternative so it’s best to get behind him and show our support for the Club . We would never have been in this mess if He was given a fair chance in the first place . If we now go and beat Bournemouth where will all those demanding Howe as manager be ?.

  30. There can be no progress with this Board and the Club’s owners. They have demonstrated convincinbgly they can’t provide strategic leadership to a sophisticated, complex ‘corporate’ business, which is the very definition of an EPL club seeking to ‘go places’. As NorthdevHammer puts it, with this board/ownership regime we will remain a ‘yo-yo’ club. This begs an awkward question for the owners: we could have continued as a “yo-yo” club quite contentedly at the Boleyn? Why then did WHUFC need to give up vital ‘real estate’ to rent a plush stadium to continue a ‘yo yo’ business model? Answer – self interest and financial gain. As for Mr Moyes’ conjectured appointment, only 9 wins from 31 games is hardly a lure for any ‘talent manager’.Not an objectively appealing track record from which to forecast and project what is a nonsensical ‘saviour image’. Never mind the mythology around Mr Moyes – a 29% win rate isn’t the definition of success. Now let’s consider the situation objectively based not on desperation but on what we know of Mr Moyes from his previous tenure – to repeat 9 wins ffrom 31 games = 29% win ratio. Over 40 games a 29% win rate would yield 35 points. And this is way short of the magical 40 points safety threshold. As things stand, Mr Moyes will arrive with 21 games left, or a potential maximum 63 points to play for, and with a miserable 19 points on the board. If, and this is a big if, Mr Moyes reproduces his 29% success rate for a second time, then he would deliver 18 points by the end of the season. This would yield a season total of 37 points, and this would be no guarantee of safety. The numbers don’t lie, exaggerate or get lost in wishful thinking. Considered objectively a reasoned forecast of 37 points by the end of the season doesn’t point to Mr Moyes’ having ‘saviour/messiah’ credentials. Really hoping for three things:1) this is a season of two halves, 2) Mr Moyes improves on his 29% success rate;and 3) I’ve got these numbers all wrong. COYI’s

  31. I think it’s a bad decision to make for him to come back to London stadium none of the fans wants him so why chose him i wouldn’t I gone for Sam Allardyce personally he can get us out this mess where in right now. No to David Moyes

  32. I wrote last night that my season ticket wouldn’t be used again this season if Moyes was appointed but that was just anger at the thought but now we have to get behind the team as the club is bigger than us as individuals & we all come together for the common cause of supporting West Ham United so let’s be united even if we disagree with the boards decision. I am no fan of the boards last 5/6 years in charge but they did get us out of a major hole after the Icelandic debacle even though they said “we did it as fans” but charged the club shed loads of interest on the loans as compensation so in my mind they’ve had enough out of our club & now is time to leave. On the manager front If I’d had a choice out of BFS & Moyes I’d have had BFS as at least he was a charismatic character & would have taken no crap from the players, maybe even Wilsher would have played (now I am in fantasy land).
