Moyes MUST shed his “indecisive” window reputation

West Ham look set to hand David Moyes a two and a half year dealas the board prepare to appoint their fourth manager since 2015.

And should they do so – as is now overwhelmingly expected – they will want to Scot to be a lot more decisive in the transfer market than he was during his first spell at the club.

After trying to attract Fulham’s Tom Cairney and hesitating for an eternity of Leander Dendocker before deciding against a move  his one and only infamous signing was striker Jordan Hugill at £8 million.

Moyes has had a reputation for indecision in the transfer market since his spell at Manchester United and that was born out of life at Everton where he had to watch the pennies.

This time round he needs to come in with a clear shopping list because there can be no hanging around – we need a striker and powerful midfielder as a matter of urgency.

Moyes has a reputation for shopping in the Championship and is an admirer of Stoke City’s Joe Allen who has been regularly linked with the Irons.

At 29, the Welsh international is expected to cost between £12million-£15million and would be a fair bet to arrive should the 56 year old Scot arrive.

Moyes will be such a bad move the board are a joke !

    • Who would u get – please don’t say Poch or zidane

      • simon says:

When Levy pulled the plug on Poch he had Mourinho done and dusted. It’s very basic business sense. We could and should have known who we would want in as a replacement weeks ago. That’s how professionals operate. People have mentioned Emery, Novac, who knows? The point is you don’t just pull the plug and scratch around for whoever is cheap and available. It’s a shambles.

        • They knew and it was Moyes

          • simon says:

I have to say that if that’s true then it’s even more depressing than I imagined. Moyes was genuinely the one they wanted out of the people who were available? Jesus wept. If you told me he was the only one available who would actually take the job I could probably get my head around that easier.

      • mark wiggins says:

Redknapp , Howe, Benitez if we had the opportunity or a younger hungry manager

      • Christopher Williams says:

Just about anyone. His record wasn’t even that good last time. I think it’s a tighter league this year and we’ll go down with him. Hugil his only transfe? For me the only good thing he did was to convert Arnie to a striker. I’d rather take a punt in the championship if a Kovac is unreasonable. I’d like to think I’d have my finger on the pulse a bit more if I owned a football club. If its going to be then we will need get behind him.

      • JMan says:

The point is Hugh, it appears they haven’t even looked beyond Houghton or Moyes and yet there is better available, Kovac, Emery, Dyche to name just 3. They continually look to shop in the basement because they lack vision, ambition and are mired in the basement themselves,. Under them we have gone backwards and this is a backwards appointment, I do not blame Moyes but there is a reason he has been without a club for the last 2 years

    • Kevin says:

So I suppose you were cheering when they let Moyes go and signed Pelligrini !!
Please wake up . Moyes kept us up and Pelligrini was an inch away of getting us relegated .
Maybe I’m missing something , but Pelligrini was sighned to take us upwards & forwards , but obviously I’ve got that wrong by your reckoning .

      • Christopher Williams says:

Not at all. Always thought Pelle was a nice guy who seemed a bit lost and confused. He won the league with Man City but I always remember the time when he didn’t realise he had made all his subs. Always thought if we started slow or struggled at any point he would look lost. The first time I questioned him at WHU was the Wimbledon game when he put his head in his hands. Manage them, give them some instruction or make a change. Moyes did a job. Please don’t tell me it was good. Win percentage 29%, transfer – Hugil. Football – poor imo. We’ll get behind whoever. Im hopeful rather than confident. It appears WHUFC can’t attract a decent manager.

      • JMan says:

Moyes’win %is worse than MP’sby the way. MP had to go but Moyes is not the answer and we also shipped loads of goals under him. Why is it that no one has wanted him in the last 2 years until the 17th richest club in the world comes begging again; pathetic and it will end badly

    • Susan Vine says:

Here we go, Moyes hasn’t even been officially made the manager and the moans have started already. Can’t take this negativity from these fans!!!!

      • JMan says:

Susan, we know what he brings and he hasn’t been employed in the last 2 years, why is that if he is so good? Yet another case of long on promise short on delivery by the board

  • Peter says:

Done with this club if Moyes, Hughton or Pullis are even considered. Burnley 2.0 is looming Davids……

  • master says:

How is Allen remotely close to the midfielder we’ve been looking for? We need a box to box guy so that Rice can sit and Anderson/Lanzini can play in front of them. And yes that means no Noble. He is a closer now, someone for the last 30 mins.

I’m afraid fornals is done for despite the improvement. Unless we sell one of the other number 10s, he’s finished. Wilshire should be turned into glue. Yarmolenko sold, doesn’t fit.

  • Ajay says:

If, as reported, Husillos has left then the club need to appoint a respected, effective and professional DoF as a matter of urgency. Transfers should NOT revert back to Sullivan or be left to the incoming manager, whoever that may be.
Past history should teach us that at the very least!

  • George Green says:

    Evra Nasri and Hughill
    Thanks Moyes, but no thanks.

  • Sullywhu says:

    Jordan Hugil quality… 😂

  • Claret says:

Why should WH buy a 29 year old we need to prioritise youth & build for the future if the current strikers are no good use the under 23’s or at least buy a younger player someone who will have a well on value.

  • George says:

What a load of nonsense. The idea that Sullivan had money for Moyes to spend but he dithered is laughable and we will soon find out that “Moyes is happy with the squad and ,if he keeps them up there will be a substantial amount to spend in the summer” statement soon enough.

  • James Gunn says:

Why is Allen a target? 15m for a 29 year old CM that isn’t in the mould that we need and is not good enough for Stoke, fighting relegation in the Championship. The day the board leave will be great, had enough of this club.

  • Hammer64 says:

Was it indeciveness in the window or was it the owners being rereluctant to buy players for a manager who was only going to be at the club for 6 months? This isn’t a dig at anybody-I would genuinely like to know the answer.

I have to say more people are keen to reject Moyes than they are to come up with realistic alternatives. A team that has been among the relegation candidates most years since we came up? A team sliding down the league? Owners who have not been universally loved by their fan base? Don’t think they need to form an orderly queue….

  • Stubbo says:

Moyes is a miserable appointment and just highlights how much our club is total amateur hour.

Like having a “Director of Football” that wasnt independant of the manager (and who right now should be the one findingor already having identified the next manager).

Or reverting to an already failed transfer approach of the fool Sullivan controlling transfers as seems inevitable.

Or going back to a manager who had a 29% win ratio and terrible defensive record to replace a manager with the same kind of recent record.

Thia board has no strategy. No ability to develop a mission statement, vision, roadmap or blueprint. They are basically a couple of chancers/jolly boys made good. The problems at the club are the people who run the club who are totally amateurish in all they do.

Theyve not made a single successfully appointment, bar maybe Allardyce on a horses for courses basis, in their entire history in football. Theyve shown no ability to deliver either success, or against their own promises.

They decided 18 months ago Moyes could not take the club forward in their vision. Whats changed? The vision should out live the short term (see Everton for an example of how that works whwre theyve clearly stated that isolated failings will not knock them off of their long term plan). But our idiots tear up the vision at the first stumble and we’re about to be saddled with a further 18 months of stagnation at best with someone who in football terms is now an irrelevance at the top level.

There are literally hundreds of managers they COULD go and get. As Southampton did with Hussenhuttl after Puel after Pochettino. None are a guarantee but They had them identified and made it happen.

Our mob can’t do better than a guy who has been out of work for 18 months since they last sacked him, having been out of work for 18 months before they previously hired him!

Honestly Hugh how can you defend this relentless incompetence at board room level irrespective what takes place on the pitch? That lack of planning and strategy. The hopelessly flawed football business model that is the only guarantee we have as it has been demonstrably a failure since they first entered the game at Brum.

In all liklihood Moyes will take us down, then fail to bring us back up. That is the reality. And both the club and the people in charge have form.

    • RichardHammer says:

Moyes was not sacked by WHUFC before.

Also, you seem to be so clear in what the future holds maybe you should apply very quickly before the appointment happens……..

    • JMan says:

      Excellent post stubbo

  • DB69WHU says:

I am sure the majority of supporters will back Moyes, he should have been given the chance 18 months ago. The sad but true fact is, is that we are not attractive to top managers! Personally I would have liked to see Poch coming in showing real intent of progress by the board. I don`t get the hatred people write on here regarding the board, there seems to be a common thought that some multi billionare will come in & buy the club but they are not there & no one is knocking on the door. At least we are now financially stable (if not premier league stable at the moment), & whatever happens the club will survive! COYI`s.

    • Stubbo says:

The reason for the hatred is they are unable to show themselves as competent custodians of the club.

They cant articulate a viable long term plan or vision, they make false or unachievable promises and at times down right lie, as well as showing total amaterism in anything that ever comes to light in public.

THAT is why. Nothing to do with funds being made available. They are wholly unable to represent the best interests of the club.

Watch Razzle Dazzle by Canning Town Len – that is what they are and why they are hated.

    • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

I don’t hate the board and think they want the best for the club but I judge them on their results and other than financially it’s hard to see how they move us forward? Despite spending more with MP they haven’t sustained that and didn’t buy Husillos recommendations e.g. Joao Felix and Gomez to name just two am sure there are more we never heard of. It takes deep pockets to jump from mid table to the top and a manager that can unite teams. Bielsa is the only one that has a remote chance of doing it on a shoestring like he is at Leeds. Hopefully the right owners will turn up because these ones are imho not the answer for us.

    • mark wiggins says:

No backing from me whatsoever it is not showing ambition . His win rate and lack of offers shoes what the football world thinks .?

  • Geoff Creak says:

I seem to remember he also wanted to buy McGinn from Hibs, who has been a massive plus at Aston Villa

  • Tony says:

There is now less than 5 months to make WestHam safe from relegation. It’s tiring hearing the bleating on about Moyes’s negativity and taking us backwards, but if he can keep West Ham in the premiership for a few years – safe even in mid table obscurity gives us a better chance of building for the future than constantly fighting relegation, chopping and changing the team and manager. It took DECADES for the likes of Man U/City, Liverpool, Chelsea, etc, to get where they are today. But they all remained in the Premiership/Old First Division for starters. It’s naive to think that we can transform in a season or two and with the odd £100m spent every now and then.

  • simon m says:

Lets first get Moyes in, and give him our support. His job is gonna be very difficult, as he has to clean out all the rot created by Pelligrini. i.e. Laziness, bad attitudes, lethargic defending, and a non-defending style of football. He also has to sharpen/re-sharpen the skills of many players especially the highly paid ones Then he has to clear out the non-premier standard players, get rid of the permanently injured ones and the biggest of all … steady the ship. So lets give Moyes our best support. He has proven himself before at West Ham … so in the words of a not so famous gaffer … Lets trust him a lot. Coyi. God bless.

  • Trevor says:

Might have to join the golf club if Moyes is put in charge or any of the dinosaurs that have consistently failed.
We need a young fresh approach who wants the youth to come through and can tactically compete with the big boys.
The fans are close to mutiny, don’t promise the world and deliver Canvey island……

  • Wilf says:

It’s a myth that Moyes is indecisive with transfers. He just likes to be certain that hes getting better than he’s got already. And let’s not fool ourselves it’s just Moyes alone who would decide on a player. There’s a whole team of people involved in transfers. Stuart Pearce was flying out to watch Dendonker for instance if I remember rightly. At the end of the day though it’s Sullivan with the cheque book and pre Pellegrini Sullivan had a bit of difficulty getting the pen out of his pocket if the number of players we were were connected to that ended up at other premier league clubs is anything to go by.

  • Oliver Burns says:

I hope the rumour about Joe Allen is a bad joke. I wouldn’t trust Moyes with transfers after the Hugill howler

    • Whammer1 says:

George. .do Ajeti,Sanchez, Roberto,Wilshire tick your box as Pellergrini quality signings. Give Moyes a chance FFS
