How different the transfer widow might have been. News today of a deadline day bid that could have further darkened the mood at London Stadium had the deal gone through.
In the end, the last day attempt by David Moyes to strengthen his own attacking option at Everton came to nothing – but not through West Ham’s lack of interest in the bid, it has been reported. According to teamtalk.com – in their ‘exclusive’ by well connected journalist Graeme Bailey – West Ham were willing to listen to the huge bid for Taty Castellanos but ultimately there wasn’t time to bring in a replacement:
“Everton were prepared to pay more than £40million for West Ham United striker Taty Castellanos on Deadline Day….as their frantic search for a new forward took another unexpected turn.
West Ham were prepared to listen to the proposal and would have been willing to accept the offer if they could find a suitable replacement for the Argentine before the window closed.
However, Everton’s approach came with only a few hours of the transfer window remaining, leaving West Ham with very little time to identify and secure another striker.”
Which would have been another ‘profit taking’ deal had the Hammers had time to replace Taty – something of a crowd favourite – since the irons paid £27 million for him just eight months ago. The problem would have been, of course, convincing a striker of any merit to drop to the Championship in any case, so perhaps Everton’s loss is West Ham’s gain this season.
Fans, I’m sure, would rather see Castellanos at West Ham for the season than another few million extra of debt paid down and a second- rate striker purchased in his place. Hopefully a nice boost for the Argentine’s ego to know he’s now a £40 million valued striker: Perhaps he could bang in a couple tomorrow to celebrate.

Yep, I like Taty but he has to perform better for us. If Everton, or anyone else, offers us £45m in January (well before the deadline this time) then I think we can invest in an upgrade.
Not sure about an upgrade. More likely than not, the club will bank £35 millions and spend the rest on a replacement of Championship standard.
If that’s real that you think his ego could be boosted by a 40 mill offer, just about sums up the player. In my opinion he ain’t performed that well, and has still got a lot of redemption to show recently. Obviously right now he’s a hammer till Jan., minimum, but I think he has to do a lot more
