Few fans will have shed a tear when Aaron Wan Bissaka or Jean Clair Todibo left West Ham United this summer. The pair had been notorious for something of an attitude problem which had meant their departures were welcomed by the dressing room and coaching staff – along with fans who had grown majorly weary of their lack of desire to represent the club which had made them millionaires.

A report entitled ‘Mexicans in Europe: Stuck in Limbo” out of South America details the ‘plight’ of Edson Alvarez, unable to secure an exit in the summer window and apparently, now, out of options.

“Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez is living in football purgatory at West Ham United: He refuses to play in the Championship, and coach Nuno Espírito Santo has completely sidelined him. ‘El Machin”s European dream is hanging by a thread after a summer of slammed doors.

This summer has been a parade of rumours and offers that fizzled out. There was talk of Real Sociedad, Ajax, even Olympiacos, but none of the bids convinced the Hammers board who wanted something close to 16m USD for the Mexican. Even San Jose Earthquakes popped up for Alvarez at the last minute but that deal fell through too. So Alvarez is left ticketless and facing an uncertain future in London”.

Poor boy. Maybe he ought to take a leaf out of Soungoutou Magassa’s book and publicly apologise to his coach and try to re-integrate himself into the squad.

Quite how Alvarez has become the last man standing when Ward Prowse, Todibo and Wan Bissaka – the other ‘unwanted’ – have managed to quit the club is something of a mystery. With the Greek and Turkish markets still open., there’s still hope for a late ‘rescue’ for the Mexican International- but it seems to be fading fast.
