Moyes: “I could have lost my job several times”

|

David Moyes has admitted that he could easily lost his job as West Ham United manager on several occasions this season.

And he also understands there is work that needs doing in the Premier League. However he continues to believe that reaching a European final has made up for much that has gone wrong.

Speaking to reporters he said: “Seasons are long, and you never know how they are going to work out, but this could turn out to be one of West Ham’s best-ever seasons. Finishing seventh and getting to the Europa League semi-finals last year was huge, and in some ways it’s probably take its toll on us this season.

“But reaching a European final will make up for a lot of the other things that have happened this year.” “Sometimes, when things aren’t quite going right, you need to show a bit of resilience, and I’ve got to say there have been times this season when it was tough and there were bits that weren’t so enjoyable.

“On several occasions I could easily have lost my job, but you need good people who understand how you work and that makes life a lot easier and the board have been very supportive. In some ways, I hope this repays their faith in what they chose to do.”

“I didn’t doubt myself, but I was more disappointed that I couldn’t quite get our rhythm back, but over my career I’ve managed to find ways of winning when my teams haven’t been doing so well.

“I’ve been brought back here twice before to help the club avoid relegation and on three occasions when we’ve been in this position we’ve managed to do that.

“I think I’m still able to find a way of winning games when it’s required.”

Loyalty doesn’t seem to count for as much these days at it used to, or respect, but hats off to the owners for doing the right thing and sticking by Moyes. He’s a good man Moyes. I remember him out doing delivery work for charity during the pandemic. I remember things like that. He’s a workaholic for our club and he deserves any success or respect he gets. Let’s hope he can win the European cup. Good to see that clubs like ourselves and Forest who stuck by their managers are now safe from relegation.

No sympathy from me regarding losing his job.The reason he has kept his job is in part to the compensation he would be paid,15 mil.But fair play to him,he has got us to a final with 1 draw being the worst result is a feat in its self. Its catch 22 because if we win the cup then he will keep his job, thus the same style next season but without Dec.Decs replacement will no doubt be an underperforming misfit. The next two signings must be the right manager and if Dec goes,a quality midfielder.

It certainly isn’t a relatively good season in the Prem. Winning the ECL would be icing on the cake but what cake? A Chelsea bun? Would much rather go for a Black Forest Gateau. WH should be aiming for 5th place next season not 6th, 7th or 8th. Each month that passes next term will reduce his compensation if he can’t reproduce the form we had over 12 months ago.

He should have been sacked. The performances and results have been atrocious for the last season and a half. Moyes will not change, he will go into the final with a negative approach to it, which will ultimately cost us a place in Europe next season and our first trophy in 40 odd years. If anyone thinks Moyes has changed or results have improved becauae of him then think of it this way…..if we were to lose to leeds today and Everton had beaten Wolves yesterday we would be going into the final game of the season with the treat of bring relegated. We have been extremely lucky this season because we played in a way that did not suit the players which resulted in dreadful performances and results. I really hope Moyes goes for it in the final and let the players express their undoubted ability l. I really hope we win the cup as a thank you to Moyes. But I also really hope our owners have the common sense to part ways with Moyes at the end of the season..
