Moyes loves this “proper football club” and its fans

|

moyes deliriousDavid Moyes is getting a closer and closer connection with West Ham as he learns more about the club’s fans.

He likes what he sees and feels very much a part of the club and area that feels a lot like home – Glasgow – thanks to the nature and characteristic of the typical Iron.

The manager goes into the Bournemouth game tomorrow (Sat)  on the crest of a revival and clearly reckons the fans have much to do with what has gone on in recent weeks.

Writing in the London Evening Standard he declared: “I have to say I am really enjoying this job.

“I’m a Glaswegian and I feel I can relate to the people at West Ham. They’re similar in that there are no frills about them.

“They challenge you and you’re never sure what kind of comments you will get. They know what they want and they tell you. It feels that way to me, a proper football club.”

There is something definitely unique about the Glaswegian way.
My mum was born in Queens Park, across the road from the iconic Hampden Park.
She was the kindest and most decent soul, as were her 4 sisters and drunken brother.
However, there was no nonsense when it came to the mothering business, no way; sh’d call it as it should be called, all her life.
One of her sisters, Ethel, married a man called Morrie, a down to earth Aussie bloke. Her pet name for Morrie was ‘Moishe’; as soon as I first heard David Moyes talk, I realized there was a hilarious connection between my aunt and our gaffer. Whenever Aunt Ethel hesitated before saying something to her husband, she would stumble on her phrase and sat “Eh-ra-Moishe!. Whenever David Moyes gives a prseer, and slightly hesitates, he sounds just like my Aunty Ethel-hence the genesis of his new nick-name, “Moishe”
    COYI & Moishe!!

They used to say that every Trophy winning team in England must have at least one Scottish player. Well Moyes is our Scot

West Ham were as usual the exception to any rule.

That was before the advent of the deep fried mars bar Sleeps, I lived up there on an Estate in Easterhouse for a wee while as they would say nearly 30 years ago now, it is a crazy place full of nutters in a nice and sometimes not so nice way, there were two pubs on the estate a catholic one and protestant one joined in the middle by a police station. The scots know a bit about working efficiency drives hahaha. It was one of the most fun times of my life as you just never knew what would happen from day to day, you have to have your wits about you at all times especially if you are English or at least that was how it was back then. I lived in Edinburgh for a bit after that and although I felt safe every day walking from my bedsit into the city or wherever and it is a beautiful city it wasn’t the same as Glasgow much like as Moyes says the East End in some ways, you just feel more alive every day because if you switch off or let your guard down anything could happen.

It’s something that makes me happy to have 3 jocks in charge of the club. All 3 from Glasgow; all 3 fighters and; all three expect total dedication from every player; lovely.
Nice to hear your experience 32.
