“It’s a case of the job moves on managers much quicker now than it did. I remember at Everton, the first year went well, second was a dip and it’s at those times where we had been safe from April time and hardly won any games and that was the only time I thought it was going wrong.
“But we got rid of that feeling that being safe was good enough.
“If I can get good stability, strengths then I hope, it could easily be eleven years. I think West Ham has got unbelievable potential, unbelievable potential to be up there. They have got the infrastructure now to grow.
“When I took over at Everton, just as an example, we trained at Bellfield, it reminds me of here but here is slightly bigger.
” Within a couple of weeks we had brought the academy in to train and one of the biggest strengths was them bringing young boys through, I always thought it was better to have them all in one building.
“Overall, I got the time to do that and make changes and do things. Sometimes, you need directors to put things in place for the long-term. You want an academy to develop, your infrastructure to be good.
“Bill [Kenwright, Everton chairman] would say I had £5m a year to spend, I shook his hand and I asked him for a couple of things in exchange to prepare the players any way I like, he wouldn’t sell any of my players and he agreed with it. I knew I had £5m a season to spend and that’s how we started.”
Moyes is growing on me I enjoy his honesty & his desire to do well here not just in short term.
With him talking long term a lot of fans & Podcats say we should get another manager in Summer so already writing him off for long term.
But if he gets us a top 10 finish and a good cup run wouldn’t he deserve the other 18months?
I would think so especially if playing good football & have a united team.
Or should we just go for a big name manager even if Moyes does very well..
I would set a much lower bar than that JRS I actually think if he avoids relegation this season he deserves an extension and a chance to show what he can do with a full pre-season and more of his own player choices
