David Moyes is determined to make sure that West Ham are not seen as a one  – or indeed even two man – team.

Such is the incredible form being shown week in week out by Declan Rice that with the Premier League at large watching and talking about the young Hammers skipper there’s a danger that could become the case.

And with his midfield partner Tomas Soucek proving one of the best buys of the last window the Hammers are now seen as an outfit with two of the best midfielders in the country – indeed the heart beat of the team.

It’s come to the point where Dec is being discussed virtually every day in the papers – and indeed here – either in connection with his form for club and country, a possible move,  his price, captaincy and much else besides.

Moyes clearly sees it as a big part of his job to keep a lid on things along with along with the growing acclaim being afforded to the Czech midfielder.

He said of Rice: “He is such an improved player. I really think he is doing a great job as a player and we are building up hope that he will be an outstanding captain.

“The role, his responsibility he takes on the pitch because of his young age, his leadership qualities will build. He has learned from Harry Kane and Mark Noble.

“My biggest concern – and I know he is young – would be that I don’t want us to rely too heavily on him.”

He added: “Sometimes maybe being British we look at the players who are doing well here, but Tomas Soucek has done a brilliant job alongside him.”

Rice and Soucek are complimentary. Before Soucek arrived we were relegation material.
    Moyes’ work.
