Nayef Aguerd concussion update

|

A Nayef Aguerd concussion update has been issued exclusively to Claret and Hugh and he now looks certain to join the Morocco squad for their World Cup qualifying away game against Tanzania next Tuesday evening. The player, as reported, took a nasty blow to the head in the game against Nottingham Forest and has been checked out for concussion by the West Ham medics. Now it seems he will be able to take part in the match despite the issue given the protocol covering such situations.

Not unnaturally the Hammers would far prefer him to stay in London ahead of the important Premier League game against Burnley at Turf Moor next weekend but the player is keen to join the squad for an important match. And it appears he will indeed be allowed to play in the match if required as the protocol covering concussion within Fifa rules is different to the Premier League.

Whilst the PL require to lay a player off for 12 days it is only seven within the world body’s regulations leaving the Irons central defender free to travel and take part in the game. It could be of course the Moroccan team bosses take a different view and decide to leave him out of the team as a result of what THEY may believe is an ongoing issue but of course that remains very much in the balance.
