Net spend: Hammers hit top four!

|

As Sean said in his earlier piece all good things come to those who wait and our manager and the West Ham board did plenty of that during the summer window.

But in the end the widespread opinion seems to be that the Hammers enjoyed a brilliant window with some hopefully outststanding signings.

Not only that but the Irons finished in a very healthy position as fr as their net spend was concerned – a subject of deep concern to many.

It’s believed that very often the net spend of clubs can reflect – so long as the signings are well up to it as our four appear to be – that it should reflect in the league position at the end of the season.

Let’s hope so because on the strength of this window in those terms the Hammers are looking in good shape to retain their lofty league position this season.

In terms of net spend the Hammers – according to Sky Sports news at https://www.skysports.com/transfer/news/11096/12383696/premier-league-transfers-spending-breakdown-after-deadline-day are in a very healthy position indeed.

Here’s how they report it:

NET SPEND

Here’s where it matters: what was the final net spend after factoring incomings and outgoings?

The top three teams for net expenditure remain unchanged from the spending chart, with Arsenal the most spendthrift club with a £131.8m net spend, followed by Manchester United (£103.7m) and Manchester City (£72.7m).

The next biggest net spenders were Big Six challengers West Ham (63.3m) and Leicester City (£55m), followed by Tottenham (£54.6m), Leeds (£43m), Brentford (£31.1m), Crystal Palace (£28.5m), Newcastle (£25m), Burnley (£17.5m), Wolves (12.4m), Liverpool (£11.5m), Chelsea (£3.1m) and Everton (£1.6m).

Five clubs recorded profit in their summer business with Southampton registering a league-topping £25m surplus, followed by Brighton (£17.9m), Aston Villa (£7m), Norwich (£6.1m) and Watford (£5.5m).

Chelsea net spend is a bit misleading, £36mil Saul Niguez on loan…
We would be wise to consider the clubs net spend over the previous year also, Man Citeh have spent over $bil. on transfer fees and Chelsea, Man Ure are not too far behind, Liverpool Everton , spuds and Arse all well ahead of the rest
And they have won pretty much every single Premiership title for years (2016 the exception)
