Claret and Hugh’s article this morning covered the news that West Ham appear to have their next signing secured as the ‘replacement’ for Mateus Fernandes: 21 year old Portuguese midfielder Gustavo Sá, whilst not yet confirmed by the usual in-the-knows or club sources, is beginning to look like an odds-on bet to be east London bound.

Gonzo’s concern, quite understandably, was that, as  a client of Nuno’s super agent pal Jorge Mendes, Sá may be another one of the ‘old boy network’ signings with the ‘Pablo Felipe‘ hallmarks.

It appears there may be a little more at play with the unearthing of the young Portuguese talent, linking him more with Nuno’s new assistant manager Rui Pedro Silva who has worked with the midfielder in the past and could easily have been involved in bringing Sá to the club.

Portuguese midfielder Gustavo Sá, who is being linked with a summer move to West Ham United.

Looking like West Ham’s next signing – Gustavo Sá

As reported by Portuguese site rr.pt, Gustavo Sá worked with Nuno’s new right hand man back in 2021 when Silva actually handed Sá his senior debut – upon leaving league side Famalicao, Silva admitted he “was “sorry not to have continued working with him”:

So it is entirely possible that Silva had his own input on the apparent imminent addition to West Ham United’s Championship squad: No doubt if and when the young man is pictured in the new claret and blue strip we’ll get an insight into how he came to be a West Ham signing.

Early and encouraging signs may be that this youngster – nicknamed Famalicão’s Golden Boy by local media – may be of a very different heritage to Pablo- for whom it is widely believed the Hammers paid through the nose.

Let us sincerely hope so.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Am not entirely convinced that in time Pablo won’t prove to be a good signing. He definitely helped our attack last season on numerous occasions by occupying defenders and closing down from the front, he can finish although he hasn’t for us.

As for Sa am quite excited by the signing if it happens, he is unproven and will need time the Championship gives a lot of opportunities for him to grow.

More signings that enable us to change how we play are order of the day COYI!!!
