THERE has been little else on the transfer agenda for West Ham fans since the window opened. Callum Wilson maybe heading off  back to the Premier League at the end of his contract, sadly, but the story already becoming something of a saga is the Mateus Fernandes ‘phoney war’ transfer battle, seemingly progressing in slow motion between Tottenham and Manchester United.

For whatever reason, both clubs have reportedly done their deals with the player first and engaged in ‘verbal bids’ – perhaps waiting and hoping that West Ham’s price was going to shoot down as the PSR 30th June deadline hove into view.

Barring a last minute announcement today it would seem Kretinsky has put his money where his mouth is and that the Irons do not, indeed, have to sell their players to stay the right side of the track financially.

That would certainly account for the rigidity of West Ham’s stance over their £85 million price tag for the young midfielder’

The Standard.co.uk today claim that there will be clear water between Spurs and Man U when it comes to the final bids – whenever that ‘final’ day arrives – and that:

“Fernandes was not expected to be among the players returning to West Ham’s training ground Rush Green next week, but as it stand he will be expected to clock in. But the soft deadline is expected to prompt progress on Fernandes’ exit, with a first formal offer from Man Utd said to be imminent.

Spurs are understood to be ready to trump any Man Utd bid, and BBC Sport report that Fernandes is keeping his options open regarding his next club.”

With the Portuguese wonderkid apparently quite happy to transfer to either club, Tottenham’s reported willingness to outbid Manchester United, come what may, makes it seem pretty clear that unless the player suddenly develops an aversion to Tottenham’s new kit, he’ll be heading to North London for a new start next season with about £80m – plus – nestling in West Ham’s account.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
