No main England squad training for Declan

|

Declan Rice was among four players not to train with the main squad as England began their international break at St. George’s Park on Tuesday.

And that’s great news for Hammers fans given the captain has had an incredibly busy season and looks certain to be rested for Saturday’s friendly against Switzerland, with a second match against Ivory Coast to follow next Tuesday.

Frankly, we were a little surprised that Dec was called up at all give his near twice a week appearances for much of a season when he has made over 40.

International weeks are always an anxious period and of course we lost him to injury last year as a result of one of them so hopefully Gareth Southgate will do the right thing by using him sparingly in a couple of matches which are of little consequence

West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone – called up to the squad as a replacement for the injured Arsenal ‘keeper Aaron Ramsdale.
