Nuno lines up Diouf replacement who wants ‘regular football’| West Ham News

Considering the pace of the exits from West Ham United this week, the chances of signing three, four or more players look quite high: The quality of the signings however, might not be quite so lofty.

Seemingly, loan signings and freebies will make up the bulk of the business – this is the Championship, after all, but as fans we all keep our fingers crossed that the one decent bit of business the Irons complete is to secure exciting Norwegian winger Edvin Austbo from Viking FK.

We can but dream.

Back on Planet Earth, seen as very much the ‘last resort’ if other discussions aren’t forthcoming, West Ham have been reported by journalist Alan Nixon as preparing to bid for a loan deal with Chelsea for their 21 year old MLS left wing back Caleb Wiley,  corroborated by exWHUEmployee earlier today.

However Nixon claims the sticking point for Wiley -who is on Preston’s hit list too – is that the defender ‘wants regular football’ promised before he departs Stamford Bridge for the season.

Hammering out a deal would be good news for supporters – especially if there’s an option on that loan deal to make a transfer permanent….But bad news for Ollie Scarles who might find his career prospects take a back seat this season if Nuno gives Caleb Wiley the assurances he seeks over game time in order to get the young Chelsea player to commit to a year – long loan at West Ham.

Edit: Since I wrote this earlier today the player has signed with Preston  – so that bit was correct! BUT the Hammers will need to look else where with THREE days remaining for a left back addition to the threadbare squad. MT

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

He wants regular football, sign up and prove you are good enough!

  • Spindrift says:

KWP can play left back and Veltman looked good in the cup at RB. I’m not suggesting this as a permanent solution, just another option. That said, Scarles should be given time and coaching. He’s rarely played in a stable team.

Preston North End have signed 21-year-old defender Caleb Wiley on a season-long loan from Premier League side Chelsea.

Wiley arrives with over a century of professional games under his belt and becomes Prston’s eighth addition of the summer.

Speaking on his arrival, Wiley said: “It’s a very exciting time. Everything’s happened pretty quickly but I’m really looking forward to my time here.

indeed..a lot happened since I wrote that earlier this afternoon…guess we’ll be looking elsewhere in the loan markets then..

  • Matt says:

Wiley signed for Preston at about half 1 so that one’s not happening

  • mark wiggins says:

    Austbø please

  • mark wiggins says:

    I hope we get him

I do not rate Scarles and never have done, I have doubts about him even in the Championship. No pace, no end product and usually an error in him too. I’d like to see a better option for the season and so it seems does the boss.

  • pat says:

Not one player should ever be guaranteed a first team place…you have to earn that right so if this is the Lads attitude i would steer clear.

  • FiskyBoy says:

Let’s get rid of Scarles then! I don’t think he will ever be the finished article no matter how much game time he gets! And if miracles do happen and one day we end up back in the premiership he will 100% have to go? We all wanted/expected so much, but like Nuno he hasn’t delivered and never will! COYI ⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️

    • Stephen Endean says:

The real problem in our defence is both of the centre halves.one gave us half a season and the other was a liability all season. Now we are relying on both of them.Scales needs to be coached better as do the rest of the young players when stepping up to play for the first team
