Oh dear Declan

|

Oh dear Declan.

One wonders what exactly is passing through our former skipper’s mind at the moment following two bad defeats to us and Fulham. The irony on his face was something to behold when he conceded a pen against the mighty Hammers but wasn’t made to suffer following the spot kick by Said Benrahma.

Oh dear Declan

Many said at the time he decided to leave West Ham that if he was focused on titles he really was joining the wrong club and that Manchester City should be his preferred option. Arsenal are not a club one would back to maintain a genuinely consistent title change over an entire season in my view.

Declan will  have seen the improvement in the Hammers performances from last season  and  with us now in sixth place a win tomorrow taking us to within four points of his new club.

I loved Declan at West Ham – along with everybody else – and bear him no ill will whatsoever but we have five top players in our team now – , Edson, Mohammed, Jarrod, JWP  and Lucas- so nothing should be beyond us.

I base that on the words of the first manager under whom I worked as a journo, former Hammer Noel Cantwell, who once said to me: “Any team with five world class players can win anything.!

Our five are very close and it is my hope for 2024 is that we make that top four above Arsenal and Declan.

No ill will but you should know better than anyone Declan. We are MASSIVE.
