Whilst the transfer rumour mill has been going flat out this weekend with strikers and one midfielder in particular occupying all the main media sites, recruitment for one key West Ham position appears to have gone pretty quiet in the last few days.
Striker stories – Wilson Isidor, Troy Parrott, Simon Adingra, Evan Ferguson – eek – and even our sources ‘un-named Ligue 1 centre forward’- take your pick: Evidently the Hammers are getting a wiggle – on.
Continued reports over negotiations for Celtic’s midfielder Arne Engels are encouraging especially since the sale of Freddie Potts has been sanctioned. With Soucek injured it seems unlikely Nuno would have agreed to part with Potts unless there was a plan in place for his replacement – or upgrade.

The Sorba Thomas reports appear to have evaporated this weekend just when the Hammmers have exhibited a dreadful lack of pace and depth following Summerville’s departure. Other wingers do appear in the mix this weekend.
But the big booming silence appears to be over central defence. Compared with a few weeks ago when links were ever-present over a handful of both free transfers and paid signings, it seems all quiet in that area. Which suggests Maximilian Kilman’s starting place in the Championship squad is assured, after a couple of half decent performances pre-season.
It also adds weight to the theory that West Ham are still holding out for a last minute change of heart from Chelsea’s Axel Disasi who is still without a club willing to meet Chelsea’s £25 million asking price.
With Kilman deemed ‘sufficient’ to start the season and Golambeckis seemingly the back-up in case of injury, fans will be in for something of a white knuckle ride if one of the senior duo gets injured early in the season. Fingers crossed the waiting game for Disasi pays off for there doesn’t seem to be anyone else on the horizon.
If Kilman is the answer, the question is wrong.
With Kilman as he arrived he became a dodgy player, a few managers later Nunos with us but can’t turn him round. Nuno gave him his debut years ago previously so maybe in the last few months he’s got him straightened out. If Disassi is still available maybe we have a chance. The reason it’s all quiet and we’ve achieved absolutely nothing is the recruitment team appears to be utterly incompetent, how have they not addressed the huge problems already, this lot make Sullivan look like he’s a transfer guru! Nuno appears determined to bore us all into submission with his awful tactics and the rest of the club seem to have bought into the idea that all out defence is our only hope.
