Paqueta/Ings spark Hammers revival

Here is how Claret and Hugh‘s work experience graduate Rory Matloob saw today’s disappointing result at the London Stadium with Paqueta and Ings sparking a Hammers revival.

Two second half goals from the Hammers rescued a point against bottom of the pile Burnley .

A goal apiece for Lucas Paqueta and Danny Ings rescued West Ham from falling to a home defeat from a game they were truly believed to win.

A cagey first ten minutes in the game saw no clear-cut chances with both teams being wasteful in possession.

David Fofona then broke the deadlock in the eleventh minute with the Ivorian fortunate to bundle his way past Aguerd. Nobody can take anything away from his strike. His effort about 23 yards out from goal flew into the top corner giving Areola no chance.

With West Ham in search of an equaliser Kudus, Bowen and Coufal all linked up on the right-hand side, unfortunately the right back’s cross failed to reach Paqueta at the back post.

Coufal was once again causing trouble for Burnley, his cross picked out James Ward Prowse however, with the ball skidding up the midfielder failed to control the ball eight yards out from goal.

For all the dangerous attackers West Ham had on the pitch it looked to be the defenders causing the most danger for Burnley in the first half, Mavropanos stepped in to dispossess Odobert on the halfway line. As the defender stormed past two Burnley players, his left footed effort was fired into the side-netting.

Things went from bad to worse for the Hammers just before half-time, a cut-back by former academy prospect Josh Cullen was met by Mavropanos’ outstretched leg to double the visitors lead. With the boos ringing around the London Stadium the Hammers had work to do at the break.

David Moyes must have said something at half-time to get his players going, thirty seconds into the second half and West Ham equalised.

A poor defensive header by Assignon put Paqueta through 1v1 against Trafford. The Brazilian calmly slotted the ball past the English goalkeeper to pull one back.

Paqueta became agonisingly close to finding his second goal on the day ten minutes later, as he jinked inside the Brazilian’s effort just whistled past the post as he failed to fully wrap his foot around the ball.

The second half was pure West Ham dominance, Edson Alvarez who scored his first goal for the club at Goodison Park last week found himself in another potential scoring opportunity.

As the ball landed out to him at the edge of the box the Mexican never looked like scoring as he failed to dig the ball out from his feet and fired his effort over the bar.

Danny Ings who had just came on as a sub thought he found the equaliser, Michail Antonio’s clever assist with his chest found Danny Ings seven yards out from goal. The forward then neatly chipped it over Trafford, unfortunately for West Ham the goal was ruled out.

Six minutes later and Danny Ings made sure this goal was counting this time, Kudus who was a threat all afternoon put a cross in which Ings latched onto. His spin and finish were superb as he lashed the ball into the Burnley goal to find an equaliser.

With three minutes left on the clock Danny Ings caused even more danger for the Burnley defence, Trafford has the crossbar to thank as it denied Ings from finding a later winner.

This result leaves West ham in seventh place only four points off Manchester United in sixth position.
