Pelle delivers verdict on season

|

Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that this has been a quiet season but one clearly free from anxiety.

And that in itself is something to be grateful for after the regular dicing with relegation over recent years,

He has regularly called for a big club mentality and to stage a big bid for European football but in the end he and we have been left being grateful for smaller mercies.

But the manager is clearly concerned with the position at the back where far too many goals have been conceded and where Lukasz Fabianski has been forced to make more saves than any other keeper in the League.

There have also been some horrendous results at times but enough decent football and some big match results have generally pointed to a brighter future.

There are few managers who go into clubs and make a difference within one season but a season of stability is something with which we can feel satisfied with the promise of better things ahead.

The manager – talking to www.whufc.com – said: “Our lack of clean sheets this season is a slight worry, and the amount of goals we’ve conceded, for me, is too much.

It’s very difficult. It’s impossible to concede so many goals and try to win games. We must be concerned about that.

We must defend with full concentration and it’s one of those things that we need to improve.

This has been a transitional season for us, between the last which saw the team fighting against relegation, compared to this season which has been a quiet one. With eight or nine games to go, we weren’t battling relegation.

We had good moments playing away in the first half of the season, and maybe not as good in the second. We started out by losing our first games at home, but we improved a lot. For the moment, it’s a quiet season. “
