Pelle muses his target options

|

Gary Cahill’s name has again emerged as a candidate for a transfer target at the London Stadium.

Manuel Pellegrini is believed to have identified the defence as his man concern and along with New York Red Bulls central defender Aaron Long and Alaves’ Guillermo Maripan, Cahill is reportedly on the boss’ three man list.

However, there are still problem in agreeing a work permit for Long and, at around£12m-£15m, Maripan looks out of the Hammers financial range at this point.

The 33 year old former England – as a free agent – is being touted a realistic option for the Irons as a candidate to join Angelo Ogbonna as back up to Issa Diop and Fabien Balbuena.

Burnley and Palace are also interested apparently and we believe they are more likely destinations for Cahill as Pellegrini tosses up between an older player or going for a younger option next week.

The former England player appeared in only nine matches for Chelsea last season.

Cahill is only good in a 3 something ive never seen pellegrini play.

  • Dom says:

Can’t see a point in this one mainly because we play such a high line and therefore need quick defenders. Cahill at 33 isn’t the player we need. We do need a player though.

Complete lack of ambition and imagination signing Cahill – there is a reason why he did not play for Chelsea last season. Again crazy to think we are not learning any lessons. Pay him a big salary, let him sit on the bench and when we do need him, he is past it. I would rather keep Ogbonna or Reid than sign this lad.

Maripan would be ideal if we could stretch the budget I would love it . ⚒

Maripan surely. Now Oxford has gone we really are light in that position.
