Pelle refuses to use Chile protests as Hammers excuse

|

Manuel Pellegrini has denied that events in Chile have affected his job despite the Hammers going through a big form slump in October.

Civil unrest and major protests against the country’s current system has caused anxiety and disorder in the South American homeland of Manuel Pellegrini.

But the Hammers boss – whilst admitting concern -refuses to use any worries he may have for himself or his family, who are still living at home, as an excuse for the Hammers form and is looking for a win against Newcastle to get the season back on track.

Major protests against the nation’s economic system have spilled onto the streets during 12 days of protests in the South American country which has left 18 people dead.

The question implied by reporters was that his mind may not be fully on his job given anxieties for his family but the manager was not ready to entertain such a suggestion.

Instead he declared: “It’s my country. It concerns me, what is happening. It’s happening for different reasons. It’s not the moment to talk about that but it’s not the reason we are not winning games. To use this as an excuse, no.

Really, it’s a problem that worries me because it’s a big problem, in a country that was quiet. It was an example to other countries in south America. But something was not working. I speak to family back home.

When you have problems in the city where you live there are always different impacts on your work and on different things. But I hope it will be resolved as soon as possible.”
