Will Still has departed Stade Reims, a move confirmed by the French club amid speculation linking him to Championship team Sunderland and Premier League side West Ham.

The 31-year-old coach, who celebrated his 30th birthday shortly after taking the helm at Reims in October 2022, initially served as an assistant for three months before being promoted. Under his leadership, Reims climbed to 11th in Ligue 1 last season, a significant improvement given they had only secured one win in the ten matches prior to his appointment.

With the current season approaching its final stretch and Reims again positioned 11th with 40 points, Still has opted to leave ahead of the campaign’s conclusion by mutual consent.

A statement from Reims detailed the decision: “After a meeting this morning with President Jean-Pierre Caillot and General Manager Mathieu Lacour, it was jointly decided that Will Still and his assistant, Nicolas Still, would not continue with us into the next season. To ensure a smooth transition into the next fiscal year, both will step down from their roles effective immediately.”

A known West Ham supporter, Still was spotted at The London Stadium earlier this season. He remains one of the potential candidates to succeed David Moyes at West Ham, though he is not currently considered the leading choice.

Sullivan needs to get into gear and get will still signed up the style of play is amazing he’s young and ambitious and wants to win trophies I think he would deliver everything us fans want and we will win trophies should he be appointed I think it’s a no brainer he would work well with Tim steidten and the club would reap the benefits

    • Smallboy Bellend says:

      Why howdy, Bennyboy!
For “Sullivan needs” blah blah, I read “I want Sullivan to…” blah blah, but because I’m a person of no influence whatsoever, I’m going to big myself up by sounding like I’m the king of the jungle, issuing orders to minions such as Sullivan….
      Bennyboy Bigboy, eh?

  • Ricky jones says:

I say stick with moyes he’s done us proud over the last few seasons he knows how to win difficult games he may not apply 100 miles per hour but he gets the job done given the money to bring in the right players he would continue to deliver

    • Haribo says:

I absolutely agree, it’s been the best period we’ve had for years not going into a new season worrying about whether we’ll still be in the premiership at the end of it. By all means try and get Moyes to take a younger manager like Still under his wing for the future.

      • Ralph says:

        Moyes has wasted 500 mil..
Plays cowardly defensive park the bus Dross
Won a cup that our whole squad was worth more then then the entire opposition..
        Has no in game management
        No man management
        No plan B
Destroyed my love for west ham and football
Has ruined the youth as no path
Has left us with a total rebuild
Majority of fans dont want him
When we win its “i” When we lose its “we”..
He is a Narcissist he is a bully especially to female reporters
He has no respect for the fans or our history
        He stays am done

        • Jim says:

Bit far fetched with the “majority of fans” comment. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it I suppose.

          • Mr Buddy Lurve says:

Do you read the forums, Jim?

If a poll was run tomorrow, I have zero doubt that it would be an 80/20 split in favour of his departure.

That 80% are those who actually sit through the games and endure the pain that watching West Ham has become.

    • Hugh Jars says:

You must be joking! Do you think season ticket holders will renew if the sweaty is still there? The man has done the job now new blood. Also, new owners would be good. ⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️

      • Ralph says:

        Agree

      • Haribo says:

Well I’ve already renewed mine, managers and players come and go I don’t think many real supporters would not renew because a very successful manager was kept on regardless of some bad results mainly down to injuries, I have many different opinions on lots of issues but I don’t let them ruin my enjoyment supporting whu.

        • Mr Buddy Lurve says:

          “Mainly down to injuries”??

So it’s not “mainly” down to an ageing squad that has been reduced in size (which could’ve coped with the injuries)? Or “mainly” down to an ultra defensive style of play?

I agree with you on players coming and going, for sure, and I applaud you for renewing, but I don’t think we can judge those who decide not to. It’s not just about the football served up, but the cost of the ticket. Cost/benefit analysis.

  • Dfbutcher says:

I would go for him , it would make a change to have someone who loves the club and would at least try to entertain me and do away with this 70 30 possession ratio in the opponents favour rubbish, anyone who would encourage our players to shoot would have my backing cause let’s face it unlike army snipers our players aren’t encouraged to shoot., although to be fair we have to be in the opponents half to do that?

    • Bob Dart says:

Moyes is a Dinosaur who thinks Tactics are a mint in a small box.
      Get rid.

  • B says:

    100% agree Ralph,

    5th lowest win rate
    4th highest goals against
All before we play Chelsea and City
Moyes as built a team, that the bottom teams look at to target points.
    Destroyed top attacking players.

Beyond me how any body rates him.

  • Tezzard says:

I wish our board , or more precisely, Sullivan would take leaf out of their books , and I don’t mean hiring will still

    This ;

Instead of the bloody farce at West Ham where a smooth transition seems beyond the jokers in charge.

  • Westhamfortunes says:

Seems like the best choice because we need someone who brings a whole vision and a way forwards rather than any random mercenary working manager like flick or Fonseca

  • Mr Buddy Lurve says:

As much as I think it would be fun to employ him, it won’t happen until he has proven himself in England. One for the future if he keeps on this trajectory, for sure.

Regarding the manager transition ‘farce’. I would like to point out that none of this speculation is coming directly from the club, who are keeping quiet. It’s coming from noisy agents and sensationalist journalists who are filling digital columns. Is it beyond your comprehension that West Ham would naturally be targeted for said sensationalism far more than Reims…?

So can we stop knocking the club until they actually make an announcement either way? The only thing we know for sure, is that Moyes is still currently in a job.
