West Ham’s board have put Manuel Pellegrini’s replacement options on hold until after the Chelsea game.
Should the Irons fall to defeat serious examination of the likely candidates will get underway.
During the last few days CandH has been ahead of the rest in bringing the names of those who are, and could be, considered.
Here’s how we reckon the the pecking order looks right now with the plusses and minuses for and against each along with our takeover chance rated out of 10:
David Moyes: Strongly fancied by at least one board member with the another undecided and the last keen to keep Pellegrini going until Fabianski returns. Everton will be strong favourites should Marco Silva be sacked as looks likely. Rating 6
Chris Hughton: Regularly mentioned and one of the first to enter the frame but there’s a general view developing that he may not be strong enough to cope with the job. 4
Sean Dyche: The cost of paying off Pellegrini, Husillos and his team plus buying out the Burnley boss may prove prohibitive considering the pay off and compensation involved being around £20 – £25 million. 4
Eddie Howe: Thought to be out of contract in the summer but with Bournemouth believed to be holding a two year option. Suggestions that he is fancied by the board tare offset by a general feeling in the game that he will remain where he is or that he could be hoping to create interest to gain a bigger deal at The Cherries. 3
Rafa Benitez: Seemingly well settled in China where unless he is sacked or resigns the buy out cost would be around £15 million. Looking unlikely. 2
Christophe Galtier: Has the feel of a flier, put out there to distract as the smokes and mirror game starts but the Lille boss cannot be ruled out entirely with the options all remaining open. 2
Chelsea we will get a win
Better not get anyone but Dyche or Howe. Be typical tight Dave if we don’t
Is there any chance that Steven Gerrard could be tapped up?
Mauricio Pochettino
No compensation
Will want to fight back hard from his Spurs departure with ****ty Levy not letting him say goodbye to the players at the training ground.
KNOWS the Premiership well.
Successful, motivated and hungry.
Better than Moyes, Howe, Dyche, Gaitler, Houghton and more personable to the players than Benitez
Perfect timing
so why get rid of Moyes in the first place. Strikes me they only want Moyes because they know how embarrassing it’s going to look when we’re relegated. Especially If Moyes is then manager of Everton and Bilic is manager of premier league West Brom.
