Phillips Deal Done

West Ham have announced the signing of English midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan, until the end of the 2023/24 season. There had been suggestions that the deal would contain an option to buy but all the usual ITK’s have confirmed that’s not the case. It is believed the deal will be £6m including the wages.

Whilst the loan agreement with Manchester City does not include an option for West Ham to make a permanent purchase of the player. However, notable football insider Fabrizio Romano has alluded to the possibility of a swap deal between the two clubs during the upcoming summer transfer window. This development has sparked concern among Hammers fans, with speculation suggesting that star player Lucas Paqueta, highly coveted by Pep Guardiola, might be involved in the potential exchange.

Phillips, aged 28, arrives at West Ham from Manchester City and is anticipated to make his debut in the upcoming Premier League clash against AFC Bournemouth at London Stadium. Whether he’ll play in that game remains uncertain, however when everyone is I’d expect Phillips to take Tomas Soucek’s place in the team.

The Phillips deal has been done following a two year chase by David Moyes

Having earned 31 caps for England, Phillips played a pivotal role in England’s journey to the final of UEFA Euro 2020 and participated in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. On the club front, he played a crucial role in Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League before transferring to Manchester City in the summer of 2022. During his time with Manchester City, Phillips achieved success by securing titles in the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup in the previous year.
