‘Playing against Mannequins’ | Humiliating Truth From Walcott

Sometimes the Julen Lopetegui ‘we are going to work very hard in training’ mantra leaves me wondering ‘what at’? West Ham’s defence stood and watched as Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard played little training ground moves to put the third past Fabianski and Max Kilman failed to get any contact on a long ball, leaving Kai Havertz one on one with Fabianski.

What is it that West Ham ‘work very hard ‘ on? The way the Hammers’ defence was manipulated each time Arsenal got a corner was like watching boys v men.

Pathetic.

Do West Ham actually have a defensive coach? It seems not – they are certainly missing someone that can inspire and instruct this expensively assembled group, three of which only arrived at the club the summer.

Every corner Arsenal’s posse assembled at the back post, one then running forward to push Lucas Paqueta out of the way at the near post. Did anyone spot the trend and block the runs? Did anyone go to help Paquetá on the near post? Was a defensive coach yelling from the sidelines? Nothing. No reaction. Highly paid professional sportsmen and coaching teams? Pathetic.

Whether it is naivety or lack of leadership, or preparation – others more qualified than I can discuss. Unlike the Newcastle game, we were beaten even before we started- but as Theo Walcott gleefully announced it was like watching Arsenal playing against Mannequins.

Let’s face it that could have been eight goals against us, except Arsenal just took their foot off the gas when the game was won.

Something has to change. If I was David Sullivan watching the thousands leaving from 70 minutes onward I’d be thinking the same.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. Don't take my comments too seriously, imagine we are having a chat at half time over a pint at L S and "let's disagree without falling out".

Be interesting to see how many tourists for the Monday night match against wolves

Sullivan only cares about himself and money . If he’s still chairman next summer. He’s going to get the shock of his life as our season ticket sales will plummet like never before. lopetegui is hopeless and the only one that cannot see it is the vertically challenged one . Ego before club every single time.

  • Sullivan Sucks says:

Sullivan has NO IDEA what it takes to run a modern club to compete at the highest levels and he doesn’t have the purse strings!

All of us Hammers fans are hurting right now but, I’m sorry, I think your rather rude personal comments are a bit over the top. You have only succeeded in adding your own zero class to the conversation.

Westham are being coached by a mannequin . Truth be said , I would have the mannequin rather than LOSEpetegui . I watch every Premier League game and Westham are the worst playing team . 15 games played and 14 were rubbish , no coach can be that bad and survive , hopefully Sullivan does the decent thing now and puts us all out of our misery with a LOSEpetegui sacking pronto.

Football is a results driven game…..we lack the results! Again other clubs around us have seen the need to change their manager and have acted swiftly and positively.
I so wanted Lopetegui to impress and take us to another level, I’m sorry to say I don’t see our fortunes getting any better and although those around us and below us are in the same boat I think they would be seeing the games against us as potentially three points a little like us. It’s coming up to Christmas and unfortunately I see us dropping into the bottom three but saving ourselves towards the end of the season. Not a Lopetegui out (yet) but I am a board out. Sullivan et al need to sell. Sullivan can sit back and say I’ve done my best, my hobby has been a success but now it’s time for a real owner (or owners) to step up!

I can’t argue with the post. Was there today & very disappointed after Monday but then the Goonies are a much better side than the bar codes. Lopetegui would not have been my choice as manager but was appointed & I got behind him but results & performances have been very poor. It’s alright saying we have 5 easier games coming up but that’s not the point, we’re a big club that should have more ambition to compete & not be looking at beating the likes of Leicester, Wolves etc & I mean no disrespect to them. We were promised a first class football stadium (it’s certainly not that) & a massive upturn in our fortunes which hasn’t happened apart from the conference league win which in my opinion isn’t enough for a club of our size. Lopetegui is not filling me with confidence at all, listened to his pre match presser & I only understood a few words as much of it sounded like ramblings in a dialect I couldn’t understand so how are the players meant to understand? I would love for him to succeed but honestly can’t see it & it’s becoming as depressing as the last couple of years under Moyes going to the stadium, I love West Ham always have & alway will (I’m 60 years old), travelled up & down the country to support the team with some great experiences on the way but am becoming more & more disillusioned with the club. Unfortunately I don’t think us true fans are that important anymore, it’s the tourist fans & worldwide TV revenue that’s more important. Wow I’ve written war & peace 🤦‍♂️😂

Terry, I’m older than you so I appreciate reading a decent post from somebody who knows how to spell and also what full stops and commas are for!

I used to watch the Hammers at Upton Park way back in the early to mid 60’s and was present at Wembley in 1965 when we won the European Cup Winners Cup. I was also at Wembley in 1966 at the World Cup Final to see our Moore, Hurst and Peters shine in the famous West Ham 4 – West Germany 2 win. Those were the days!

Five and a half years after that I emigrated to Australia but have been back for family visits several times and sometimes managed to get to the old Boleyn Ground to watch a game.

Nowadays it’s easier to watch on TV from Australia when you can see every game on demand in full, no matter what day or time it’s played. And, like you, I love West Ham and whatever happens they will always be my team.

I’ve never had the time to read War And Peace but I’ll always have time for West Ham United. Come On You Irons!

The first half an hour was atrocious, what can be said when fans call it a day at half time. Arsenal eased off with their midweek game in mind is how poor we are…

They stopped taking us as seriously as their next game, those things are embarrassments and we cannot go on like that.

You’re right, even Sullivan must be thinking the same.

  • Andy says:

The same old bull shit from Sullivan the clown. 3 games to save his job again. The people around me today including myself I’m so done with this shit .
