ClaretandHugh’s poll to find the Iron of the Year developed into a two horse race with Dimi Payet coming out the winner – as expected!
However, another new boy Michail Antonio – whilst being a little way back – made a real fight of it for a long time against the French genius.
Payet collected 701 voted of the 1529 cast which saw him end up with 45.85% of the vote.
However, the £7m summer signing from Nottingham Forest was way in front of the rest collecting 422 votes to command a voting share of 27.6%.
And given that he had to wait until November to break into the team on a regular basis that is a pretty extraordinary performance.
Back in third place was the ever consistent Cheik Kouyate with 7.19% of the vote (110) and last year’s winner Aaron Cresswell was relegated into fourth place with 6.87% of the poll.
