We have published West Ham manager win ratios before but they often included cup games and games played in the second tier of football.
In our latest analysis, we look at only Premier League games from 1993 to 2020 at look at each West Ham’s manager by season and his overall performance during tenure.
Caretaker managers have also been excluded as has any season played in the Championship.
Harry Redknapp comes out as the most successful West Ham manager in the Premier League era with a win ratio of 37.74% and average points per game of 1.39.
Second most successful was Alan Curbishley with a Premier League win ratio of 37.10% and 1.34 points per game.
Slaven Bilic comes third with 1.33 points per games although his win ratio was only 34.48% putting him fourth in win ratios behind Alan Pardew.
Avram Grant comes out the worst of all modern managers with a win ratio of 18.92% and just 0.89 points per game overall.
David Moyes second stint is worst than Grant’s with a win ratio of just 16.67% so far and 0.67 points per game but he is saved overall when combined with his first stint as manager giving him an over win ratio of 25.64% and 1.05 points per game.

Yes, we won 5 under Pellegrini: Norwich, Watford, Man U, Chelsea, and Southampton. That makes his win ratio better than Slaven’s.
I thought we had 7 wins this season, which if correct I think boosts Pellegrini rather than Moyes. Interesting stats though.
yes missed two for Pelle, now updated
Thanks Sean for this detailed analysis – it is very helpful – interesting that on points per game BFS, Pelle and Glenn Roeder come out very similar – BFS strength here is his consistency – he never does very well but also never does very badly. This does show that Avram Grant did do very poorly – hopefully Moyes can pull a rabbit out of the hat and win enough games to boost his record and not be the worst (because if he doesn’t then we will be relegated)
Any chance you can tell the people in charge to get rid of Moyes . ? We are going down with him in charge . Disgraceful decision to reappoint in him in the first place .
Hindsight is 20/20…..
Moyes 1st term in charge was OK, but this time, the schedule is far against him and has been on the wrong end of a couple decisions… IF West Ham had won just 2 more games this season, would you all be quite so … animated?
So here’s the thing this started with GSB who wanted reemploy hun . Unfortunately it was a money decision rather than what was needed. He is a terrible manager who should not have been offered the job. The lack of funds has been the start of our ruin . I really hope we stay up and rebuild from there.
Moyes makes Avram Grant look like Alex Fergurson, with the squad of players we have the way he manages the team is a disgrace.
This is interesting, Redknapp who’s teams generally entertained and would have never taken the England team down was sacked.
Cheap option after 2 seasons equals relegation.
Curbishley- didn’t mind his team and had the fiasco of the Icelandic owners, Tevez etc. Done well and was building.
Cheap option taken, after two seasons relegation.
Bilic , done ok was undermined with ground move and Payet.
Pellegrini/ Moyes- 2 seasons later…..
We’ve ditched all our best managers and given them little time to grow and develop.
The best one IMO was Redknapp, sacked for criticising the board in a fanzine and we have never recovered from that Roeder relegation that followed.
