Queens Park Rangers are facing a FIFA complaint after allegedly pressuring Glen Kamara to leave Finland’s international camp early and return ahead of Friday’s game against West Ham.
Finnish FA general secretary Marco Casagrande told public broadcaster Yle that QPR made it very clear they wanted Kamara available against the Hammers. The Championship club also arranged his flight back to England.
Casagrande believes FIFA’s player-release regulations were not followed and confirmed that Finland intends to report the matter once the international window closes.
Kamara Shouldn’t Benefit If QPR Broke The Rules
If it is proven that QPR broke the rules, it would seem to me that the only fair solution is for Kamara not to be permitted to play at the London Stadium on Friday night.
That said, I may well find myself taking a very different view had West Ham recalled Konstantinos Mavropanos early to prepare for the game.
But the fact of the matter is that West Ham didn’t do that — and that is really the crux of it.
QPR appear to have gained additional preparation time with an important player by doing something Finland alleges was against FIFA regulations.
If that allegation is upheld, allowing Kamara to benefit by playing against West Ham would hardly seem fair.
I know it’s because of TV coverage but playing Friday night after the international break is just plain stupid. It puts the players at risk of injury and gives teams with players that played earlier in the week the advantage. Everyone should have played Sunday!
