A lot was made of West Ham’s ambition during the summer as the club attempted to retain as many key players as possible.
Jarrod Bowen committing his future to the Hammers, alongside keeping hold of Konstantinos Mavropanos and Taty Castellanos, demonstrated that the club were willing to match words with actions.
Of course, the first player to pledge his future was Tomáš Souček.
However, when the big Czech midfielder returned from the World Cup injured and facing at least three months out, any prospect of a transfer away was effectively killed. In essence, it was easy for Souček to commit his future when nobody was going to sign an injured player.
Souček camp makes feelings clear
That’s why it was heartening to hear yesterday that the 31-year-old is now in talks over a new West Ham contract. C&H revealed exclusively this morning that Big Sou was in talks with the Hammers higharched over a new deal.
Claret & Hugh has had repeated contact with Souček’s UK representatives over the last few years, and one thing has remained constant: he absolutely loves West Ham.
Only this morning, a member of Team Souček told me directly:
“Honestly, he loves the club and the fans, he’s never wanted to leave.”
Now is the time for West Ham to act
With eight months remaining on his current deal, plus a further one-year option, now is absolutely the time to tie Souček down to a new contract.
Crucially, this latest commitment comes with the midfielder fit again and preparing to return to action rather than sidelined with a serious injury.
Souček is expected to be in Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad to face QPR on Friday, and hopefully his return to the pitch will soon be followed by some good news off it too.

I have read many times that Tomas wants to finish his career at WHU
