Report: Hammers chase Burnley striker

|

Burnley’s Chris Wood is reportedly wanted by the Irons.

But the Mail reports the 29 year old also interests Everton and Aston Villa although until a new boss is installed at the Toffees that seems rather more a guess than reality.

Wood is a striker who makes a habit of scoring against the Irons and last season racked up 12 strikes in 33 Premier League appearances including the Clarets goal in the 2-1 home defeat by the Irons.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is keen to keep the player who has two years left on his deal but they may well struggle if a club comes up with the £25 million price tag they have placed on the Kiwi.

Wood has been a reliable source of goals since arriving at Burnley from Leeds in 2017.

And he may be one of the most under-rated strikers in the division having hit double figures in every one of his four seasons at the club, with a highest season-tally of 14 coming in the 2019-20 campaign.

He has notched 57 caps for his country, scoring 24 goals and appearing at the 2010 World Cup at 18 years of age.

Just as they were last season when chasing central defender James Tarkowski it could well be the Irons will be involved in another ongoing situation in attempting to land Wood.

    Come on guys!
He is not a moyesy player ….

  • DJHammer says:

As good as Woods is, superb target man, at his age we would never recoup any sizeable transfer fee out laid. If he was on a Bosman, or small fee, why not.
Just doesn’t seem to fit Moyes’ edict of building a young energetic (RB) type of squad.

Let’s hope it drags on and finishes nowhere like there pursuit of Tarkowski last season. Absolute jokers
