Report: Hammers open talks with Lingard replacement

|

Transfer news journalist Ekrem Konur claims that talks between West Ham, Matheus Pereira and West Brom have taken place.

He also claims Saudi club ALHilal have also begun talks for the Baggies player with an initial low offer of € 7 m (£6m)

A move from West Brom to the Bundesliga would make sense for Pereira, journalist Luke Hatfield claims.

According to another report, David Moyes is exploring a loan deal for Pereira with an obligation to buy between £15m and £20m.

The news comes after the Hammers became inpatient on a final answer from Jesse Lingard who is yet to receive a contract offer from Manchester United.

He has indicated he wants to fight for his place at Old Trafford despite the arrival of  Jadon Sancho.

While West Ham hasn’t completely closed the door on Lingard they will now explore alternatives and open talks with other representatives and clubs as they cannot afford to wait any longer for a sudden u-turn from the 28-year-old former West Ham loanee.

  • Why would you say that? A loan with an option to buy is always preferable to any manager as it allows to try before you buy. Why wouldn’t anyone take up such a deal if on offer?

  • Karen Baker says:

So a loan is better than a permanent deal? What planet are you on?

The lad had a fantastic season, premier league proven at a great price. Why would a manger with £85m to spend (your words not mine) want to loan his number one target to replace Lingard?

It seems your so engrossed in spreading this pro board propaganda, you’ve completely lost touch with reality.

    • A loan with an option to buy is better than a permanent deal yes, it allows a manager to try before they commit funds that he could otherwise spend elsewhere.

Worked with Benrahama and Dawson so the manager has form in preferring this option but it is not always available.

The anti-board agenda seems to taint your thinking also, anti board propaganda is just as rose-tinted as any pro board thinking

Got to agree a bit ,,,,its taken since the end of last season to now to come to this ..the way we do business is a complete joke ,it really is ..,,after last season and getting to Europe, I really thought they woukd have pushed on ..2/3 weeks to season and not one single players has come in . And we need, 4/5:players…just derisory offers ,that have absolutely no chance of being accepted..

  • John john says:

Loan with buy obligation means they simply push back the cash payment requirement for a yr, meni g they can spends this summers budget elsewhere..

  • Taffyhammer says:

Saudi is the best fit for these claims. Good luck to the lad. We’re looking to re-sign Grady Diangana?

  • DJHammer says:

Okay, what do we know for sure?

A). We have released and sold a few high earners, ie Lingard, Haller, Balbuena, Anderson.
    B) We have lowered the wage bill. freeing up funds for out of contract or loans.
    C) Promoted academy graduates into the first team squad,
Johnson (full back L/R), Coventry (DM). Holland (AMF) Mipo (F).
    D) Signed several young players of differing positions currently in and around the first team,
Oka-Flex (AMF), Alves (CB) Xande Silva (F)

Most of us could name the top starting eleven, and match day squad from the retained list
It probably wouldn’t look different than last season’s up until early February, by the way at which point we were 4th.

So what positional requirements do we have that desperately need upgrading before the new season commences?

    Striker? Central defender? Central midfielder?

I’m not sure if we need anything desperately!
Because we have several versatile footballers who cover multiple positions adequately.
Antonio,Yarmelenko, Rice, Lanzini, Bowen, Cresswell, Johnson come to mind.

So would Pereria be a starter if he’s signed, possibly!

Certainly it’d be better to have some competition for the spine of the team and I think that’s why not too much has happened yet, we’ve got until the end of August to find the additional squad players, as all first team bases are currently covered for the interim.

Well done DJ. Worth taking the time to read your comments here. COYI

    • Saul says:

DJ, that’s a fair comment, although i think a striker is essential, as does Moyes and most supporters. The other positions, i agree with you on. How are we going to get a top CM when he knows he’ll be on the bench. The same can be said of a Defender. But a striker must know he’ll get at least half of the games this season due to Mickey’s hammies. Unfortunately i don’t think any of our young strikers are anywhere near ready for first team action.

      • DJHammer says:

Agreed Saul, the centre forward position is the top priority.

The main thrust of my post was to highlight that we can still afford to wait for the right players with the attributes required right up until the end of the transfer window if necessary, provided Antonio stays fit between now and e/o August.
