Report: Hammers still in for midfielder

|

Speculation that West Ham are ‘working around the clock’ to lure Amadou Onana to the London Stadium as he ‘fits the bill’ seems some way from reality.

The Hammers were reported to be keen on the Lille midfielder a copuple of weeks back and it was confirmed by the club to Claret and Hugh that we were interested in the player.

Very Low RaterIndeed, a bid of around £25 million had been made for the Senegal international but that was way short of the fee required for a defensive midfielder who is not out of contract until 2026 having only joined the French Ligue 1 club in 2021.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke now claims the club are continuing to work on the deal which would almost certainly see him arrive as our marquee signing were it to be accurate.

But unless there is a huge change of heart on the fee required it simply won’t happen with the Hammers telling us Lille want a minimum €68 million for him.
