Aaron Ramsdale is reportedly holding talks over a potential move to West Ham, according to talkSPORT.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper, who only joined Southampton from Arsenal last season, is eager for an instant Premier League return following the Saints’ relegation campaign.
Ramsdale endured a horror season on the South Coast, and has earned something of a reputation for getting teams relegated. Despite that, West Ham gaffer Graham Potter is said to be keen, impressed by Ramsdale’s past stints at Arsenal, Sheffield United, and Bournemouth.
The Hammers are on the hunt for a new No.1 following the departure of loyal servant Lukasz Fabianski who was given an excellent send-off in the final game against Ipswich Town.
Ramsdale won’t come cheap, though apparently, with Southampton demanding £20 million—the same fee they paid Arsenal less than a year ago. Ouch!
It’s hard to imagine West Ham splashing that sort of cash on a keeper whose stock has taken a hit, but Potter seems determined to find a goalkeeper who can play the sweeper-keeper role. In that respect, Ramsdale arguably offers more than current No.1 Alphonse Areola who has endured a few dodgy moments himself.
Nobody at the club is willing to comment on this particular piece of speculation. Claret & Hugh have asked our top transfer source if there is any validity in the rumour but were informed that it was unlikely the Hammers would spend £20m on any keeper.
No need to wait for your “source” to confirm we are signing him. Martin Treasure has waxed lyrical about him so many times, like he did with Evan Ferguson before we signed that flop.
C&H have made it pretty obvious Ramsdale and more likely Brownhill are targets Sullivan is happy to push through.
He’s a good goalkeeper but not at 20million especially when Brentford have just paid 18million for Kelleher who imo is better than Ramsdale.

No point in seemingly wanting a keeper to play sweeper keeper role in a team constantly defending and never in the ascendancy.
Goalkeepers and team mates are all going to make multiple mistakes in this flawed set up.
Just get a Fab 2 or a Hart 2 and allow them to play safely.

Way to go to get West Ham fans onside,he’s actually a decant keeper,wasn’t too shabby against Man City the other week was he ? He’s been relegated playing in awful teams like Sheff Utd and Southampton yet Arteta at Arsenal obviously saw good in him and overall he done well at Arsenal.
Why do you have to over emphasise on calamity ? No need for it,if he signs for West Ham you’ll soon change your tune.

Ramsdale isn’t a bad keeper and he has played behind some terrible defences.
But he obviously wouldn’t be coming in as a backup. Nor would Areola settle for being backup.
Which means we’re only likely to bring in an expensive keeper if Areola is sold (in my opinion).
Might as well start gearing up for the Championship starting with the keeper……
