Report: West Ham keen to Bayer defender

|

The latest rumours from the transfer market is that we are still interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah in the summer, according to the German newspaper Bild.

We have mentioned the Irons interest in him in previous posts on CandH and the club have appeared to have kept close tabs on him throughout this season as Rob Newman has been over on more than one occasion to run his eye over him.

The strong tackling 27 year old German international has a deal until 2025 but Bild states he could change clubs by activating his ‘exit clause’ in the summer.

Back in January, he turned down a potential move to Liverpool in order to stay at  Bayer Leverkusen.

He has had a magnificent season for the club topping the defence metrics in ball winning and aerial supremacy. Unusually for a footballer in the modern era, he is remarkably reticent and very rarely does interviews. Indeed the only one I could find was earlier this year when he said:

“If you don’t develop further, something is wrong. I work very, very hard on myself, it has always been like that. I step on the gas a lot, which many people might not realise. Now I’m reaping the laurels.”

Bild also suggested that Tah’s impressive performances could help him achieve his ‘dream of moving’ to the Premier League. This will come as encouragement for the Irons in our pursuit to sign the defender in the summer.
