Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the earlier reported story that West Ham are closing in on a deal to sign Guido Rodriguez on a free transfer, according to.
The Hammers are in ‘advanced talks’ with the Argentine midfielder, who is currently without a club after leaving Real Betis at the end of his contract earlier this summer.
Rodriguez has enjoyed immense success with the Argentina national team, playing a part in their 2021 and 2024 Copa America triumphs, either side of lifting the 2022 World Cup.
At club level, Rodriguez played for the likes of River Plate, Tijuana and Club America in Argentina and Mexico, respectively, before heading to Europe with Betis in January 2020.
With Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana and Liga MX titles already under his belt, Rodriguez helped Los Mejores win the 2021/22 Copa del Rey as part of a 173-game spell for the club, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.
According to Romano, West Ham are closing in on the signing of Rodriguez after a possible move to Barcelona collapsed. However, there is still work to do with ‘several’ other options on the table and negotiations between the player and club still ongoing.
A later report from Romano also stated that Rodriguez is now ‘giving priority’ to West Ham, with the Hammers ‘confident’ a deal will be struck soon with a verbal agreement close.
Amazing news!
Presumably, either Soucek or Ward-Prowse will be sold to make room. Otherwise, with Alvarez and now Rodriguez, plus Orford, Earthy, Potts – too many central midfielders. Can sell one to fund another CB. Hopefully, not W-P given his goal contribution.
I think Soucek will be sold I think, which will open a non home grown spot.
As mentioned above, yes we have a few mid’s but we do need to fatten the bench.
Doesn’t seem possible that there’s mention of overcrowding in mid field.
As previously mentioned an ideal situation would be to have two players for each position.
Obviously that would mean players wouldn’t be automatic starters each week.
Maybe need to put some academy players out on loan?
JWP or Soucek to go? Already been some reference about Soucek moving on.
What happened regarding lowering average age and signing Brazilian wiz kids?
Fullkrug_31, Rodeiguez_Free_30, Wataru_31.
Hopefully of they sign they can avoid injuries.
