Sensational Marshall gives Moyes a timely reminder

During last weekends clash against Manchester City’s development team, West Ham’s young striking sensation, Callum Marshall, once again showcased his talent. The Irish striker was once again in impressive form, and will be hoping it serves as a timely reminder to David Moyes.

Scoring a goal and creating another for Gideon Kodua, Marshall’s exceptional performance helped secure a 2-2 draw for the U21 team. Marshall’s impressive display has got me wondering about whether a loan stint in senior football could be the next step for his development. Put plainly . . . Marshall is too good for this level of football and he’s not the only one.

Sensational Marshall was at it again in Premier League 2

Marshall’s brilliance on the pitch was evident as he netted his 12th goal of the season within ten minutes, cancelling out an early opener by Kane Taylor for the hosts. Despite falling behind at halftime with Josh Adam’s curled goal for City, West Ham rallied in the second half, with George Earthy and Lewis Orford coming close to adding to the scoreline.

In a remarkable play, Earthy’s brilliant ball-winning ability set up a tap-in for Kodua at the back post, following a cross from Marshall. The match ended in a well-deserved draw, extending West Ham’s unbeaten run to eight matches in Premier League 2, placing them seventh in the table, just four points behind the leaders, Tottenham Hotspur.

The home team started brightly, and Knightbridge had to to make some inspired saves to keep the Hammers in the game. However, West Ham responded well in the second half with Kelly, Orford and Earthy particularly impressive.

Manchester City are an excellent team, and have some talented individuals. But West Ham’s youngsters were their equals in a highly entertaining game.
