Waiting for Evan Ferguson (sounds like a Samuel Beckett play) could become a major folly of the January window: Brightons’ young burly striker is struggling with an ankle injury at present in any case, and his club have decreed that they won’t decide on a loan until the end of the window.
By which time, of course, West Ham’s opportunities will have vanished and the club will be striker-less going into February. West Ham managed three goals from four shots against Fulham but cannot expect to achieve a similar return in every game between now and the end of the season in May. A decent striker urgently needs to be added in the next 17 days.
Considered a ‘lower risk’ owing to his availability as loan signing, Andre Silva offers Graham Potter an immediate ‘straight out of the box and onto the pitch’ option. Whilst he’s not been scoring so much as of late, he has the ‘relative’ youth of an under 30-year old on his side and could well enjoy a career renaissance of Aaron Wan Bissaka proportions by re-discovering his shooting prowess at West Ham.
Roshane Thomas in the New York Times goes further:
“The good news is that West Ham need a clinical forward and Silva has been that sort of figure in the past. All 40 of his Eintracht Frankfurt Bundesliga goals came from inside the penalty area, which is an indication of the sort of finisher he is. His goalscoring return of 29 goals in 2020-21 at Frankfurt shows what he can achieve with an extended run in a team. Although Silva has not reached those heights since, a switch to West Ham and some regular game time could get him back on track. “
Being able to use Silva combined with Kudus, Bowen and the veteran Danny Ings through the remainder of the season would give West Ham options to trouble opponents without breaking the bank.
Compared with some of the huge financial commitments required for acquisitions, as a loan from the Bundesliga he makes financial sense too. Unlike a multi-million loan from the Premier League (like the fiasco of Kalvin Phillip’s awful Hammers’ folly) – and with an option to buy slotted into the end of his loan, he may do very nicely.
Unless we can get Elye Wahi which is doubtful because he could have come last year then get this guy for a few months to fill the gap. He isn’t prolific and that’s in the European leagues so he is less likely to be so here, maybe one goal in 5 but he does link up the play quite well so could be a good option for a loan with an option in Potters system.
Seems a perfect option. Cannot put too much hope on either getting Ferguson or him being fit even if we did. Sign him up!
Personally, I feel with our current situation we should be using Luis Guilherme up front. Give him some field time and see if he can prove his worth and maybe increase his value back to at least what was paid for his services.
On top of that we have some good guys on our youth team and we should try utilising them, for instance the likes of Callum Marshall up front same as using our young defender Ollie Scarles instead of big Mavropanos who constantly causes us problems instead of the opposition.
Obviously it goes without saying that we need to be signing players like Johnathan David, Gomes and co but in the meantime we need fresh talent to get some opportunities on the field lets face it they can make us lose any more than we have been losing already.

I heard the day before yesterday that there could be a chance that cornet might be sold or loaned , wich is great obviously..frees up some wages/space …heard it 2 days ago.and the deals done today …my point a few months back i mentioned this . But look how fast outgoing players deals get done 😆😆..a few days this one took ….good luck to maxwell …bet he’s happy he will.get.a chance at last .. shame our incoming signings don’t go as easy as this
I don’t understand why they are not bidding for David …his contract is up in the summer ..he’s young and decent pace and he’s cheap wich we all know sullivans love if that word…I don’t get why we haven’t gone for him already…..players ate moving. Abd the quicker we get a deal done the quicker they can get used to new surroundings..they make out there no one available but there is …especially players like David at end of contract…

We have got to stop getting these desperate signings and loans and actually buy a proven and current young striker, it actually saves money in the longer term. We can afford to pay £60m if we need to, so get on with it, the players are out there.
As a stop gap I don’t mind this. He’s a similar player to someone like Raul Jimenez albeit with a bit more pace, and can get us through to the summer. Of course I’d prefer David or Fati, but this, on a loan without an obligation, makes sense. Will certainly have more impact from the bench than Ings.
Fati is a winger and isn’t the answer.

Absolutely right, Glenn. We need explosive, assured maturity up front to take us at least to the end of the season. Much like the addition of Danny Ings a couple of seasons ago. An interim solution for our injury crisis.
Come the summer, we can then get our men for the future – which might include the interim guy too.
It would be magic if we could find someone with the impact of Jesse Lingard.
Maybe Marcus Rashford fancies enjoying four months with us before joining Everton, Forest or Villa?
