Snoddy leaves the building

|

Robert Snodgrass has left the West Ham building after successfully passing his medical with West Bromwich Albion.

The news was officially confirmed on the Hammers official website this afternoon

The club said ‘West Ham United can confirm that Robert Snodgrass has joined West Bromwich Albion on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee.’

The former Scotland international spent four years with the Hammers, making 86 appearances, scoring eleven goals and assisting 17 more.

However, the 33-year-old had featured just six times this season and, with six months remaining on his contract, manager David Moyes has allowed him to leave in search of regular first-team football.

A model professional who was popular in the dressing room, Snodgrass joined the Irons from Hull City in January 2017.

After spending the 2017/18 season on loan at Championship club Aston Villa, the midfielder returned to London Stadium and enjoyed a fine 2018/19 campaign, scoring four goals and assisting nine times. He added five goals and five assists last term, but competition for places has seen his opportunities limited in the current campaign.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to thank Robert for his hard work and commitment in Claret and Blue and wish him all the best for his future career.’

The 33-year-old midfielder penned an 18-month contract at The Hawthorns for a nominal transfer fee.

Baggies Head Coach Sam Allardyce speaking to the West Brom official website said: “I’m absolutely delighted that he has chosen to take up the challenge with us. He’ll add Premier League experience and Premier League quality to our side. He’s left-footed. We all look for balance. When you get the right balance in the team with left-footed players, they can really produce for you down that left side.

“He tells me he’s played holding midfield, left of a three, wide left and right, so he’s pretty versatile across midfield.

“I’ve heard from many, many people that he is exceptional in the dressing room which is a great bonus on top of his abilities.”

Snodgrass said: “I’m up for the fight and I’m up for the challenge. It’s going to be a tough ask because of the position we are in, but I firmly believe we can do it.

“The lads are probably looking for that one win to then be able to go and kick on. There’s some great talent here. I’m just a piece of the puzzle here to try and get points on the board.

“I’m delighted to able to start playing football again. I’ve really missed it. I had a few cup games at the start of the season for West Ham and haven’t really featured since then.

“I had a good record in the Premier League last season and I’ve missed playing in it.

“West Bromwich Albion a great, historical club and I can’t wait to get started, get into the thick of it and help the lads any way I can.

“I’ve played almost 600 games in my career so I believe I can offer little points here and there to some of the lads with my experience.

“I know a good few of the lads here and I’m excited to meet the rest of them. Hopefully I can play my part to bring the lads together.

“I’ve been training every day for four months without any football at the end of each week. It’s been difficult.

“I’ve got a chance now to show that I’m fit, willing and ready.”

ClaretandHugh says: Make no mistake this guy has become one of the most popular figures to appear for the Hammers over recent years and takes enormous credit given that he came in as a ‘replacement’ for Dimitri Payet’s set piece routines. Some task,! Then he suffered again with Slaven Bilic not knowing which was his best position and allowed him to spend a season at Villa Park. It’s been written more times than enough what happened from there but once more won’t hurt. He battled his way  unfancied into Pellegrini’s team  and has played an invaluable part during difficult times. Anyone who knows about these things knows that he has been as committed and passionate in the dressing room as he was on the pitch. A great fella and all of us at Claret and Hugh offer Snoddy our thanks and appreciation. If anyone can  inspire a Baggies revival he’s the man. All the very best mate.

Lovely set of words. Says it all. Thank you Robert and hope you can help Sam pull the Baggies clear. Enjoy the ride anyway, however it turns out. Going to miss our Mr Reliable.

By all accounts a top guy and best wishes to him. The best left foot from a set play in the squad and that takes some doing with Cress’s left foot. However the prospect of him playing games with us was small and I believe it was the right move for everyone. We have done terrific in this window again like the last window in reducing the wage bill etc. I think the only other player that we could sell is Fredericks. If we sold Fredericks we would have sold or released 12 players since last summer, incredible to think and only two players coming in. I am the eternal optimistic hoping for 4 signings, LB (on loan), CM (promising young player with potential), CF (promising young player with potential) and Arnie back on loan.

Showed absolute class after being treated utterly, utterly shabbily by the Sullivan family. Good luck to you Robert Snodgrass. Top man.

Nice post Sean – top man Snoddy – wish him the best – I saw BFS is talking of playing him on the left – not a good move but that is not our problem

Just hope that he doesn’t score or have an assist against us – we play them after Burnley
