Soucek’s remarkable landmark appearance

|

Tomas Soucek’s near relentless  succession of appearances continued last night as he led his national team to a 2-2 draw against Spain.

It meant that on a remarkable landmark 50th appearance for his nation he had completed 117 near  successive displays over the last two seasons at club and international level.

In fact that’s more than remarkable in any circumstances and he looked in great shape as the Czechs continued their unbeaten start to the UEFA Nations League by drawing 2-2 with one of the competition favourites.

He and Vladi Coufal played a major part in the game during which they twice led against their visitors in Prague.

And although Spain pegged them back, Czech Republic are still sitting sitting level on points with A2 leaders Portugal after two games in the competition.

Fresh from defeating Switzerland on Thursday, Souček and Coufal once again started – with the former in his familiar central midfield role and the latter deployed as a right wing-back.
