Spurs look to launch Ward-Prowse hijack

Reports have emerged today that Spurs are preparing to join the “race” for Southampton skipper James Ward-Prowse.

Having led Saints to an opening day win against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday, the midfielder remains very much a wanted man at West Ham who have seen a £25 million bid rejected.

Now – according to various reports – Spurs are keen, although Saints Director of Football Jason Wilcox has made it clear the club has no reason to sell the player.

They have slapped a £40 million fee on his head but remain unlikely to get such a sum for a player in his late 20s with no sell on value.

It has now been reported that Tottenham watched Ward-Prowse several times last season and now could swoop for the 28-year-old as new boss Ange Postecoglou looks to add to his midfield options.

However, having added former Leicester City midfielder James Maddison it seems reasonable to assume the Australian coach may be looking to fill other positions rather than adding another midfield operator.

Let the Spuds shell out £40m for a player that will spend his time on the bench and IMO apart from free kicks,he’s average and he is 29 in November.
