West Ham captain Kurt Zouma has agreed to leave the club in search of first-team football, although a top Hammers source has told C&H, “It ain’t done yet.”
United Arab Emirates Pro League football club Shabab Al-Ahli are closing in on a deal to sign Zouma from the Irons, and the defender has conceded that his time is up in East London.
There will be little to no money involved in the transfer if he can pass a medical, but it will save the Hammers £5.8 million in wages, with the 29-year-old earning nearly £125,000 per week. This move will also free up a valuable squad place.
The Frenchman is due to fly for a medical immediately, which is where things could get a little tricky considering the central defender’s injury record.
However, as soon as the deal is ratified, Irons director of football Tim Steidten is expected to push through a move for his replacement. West Ham have not given up hope of having a defensive partner for £40 million Max Kilman in place ahead of the first game of the Premier League season against Aston Villa.
Only a medical to pass, what could go wrong? 🤣
