Still no sign of Hammers loanee – good enough for England but not for Stevenage FC

You’ll have guessed by now that the subject of this article is West Ham youngster Lewis Orford. Sent out from the side on a season long loan to third tier  Stevenage FC, presumably to get some regular football under his belt the West Ham youngster again missed out on even making the bench for tonights tie against Bromley.

You may recall that Stevenage – leading the league one championship – claimed that the West Ham u21 England star would have to wait.

Stevenage manager Alex Revell stated ” was due to the team’s successful start and tough competition for places. “

Really?  This is the same Lewis Orford who was invited by England Manager Thomas Tuchel to train with the ENGLAND senior squad in the last international break. I’d not heard that Orford had an injury or any other reason to prevent him from being selected. I many be wrong.

Orford can’t make it into Stevenage’s squad – not even on the bench

But surely the West Ham hierarchy must be tempted to cancel his loan and bring him back to West Ham at the end of the year.

Orford deserves to be part of the Nuno revolution and has too much talent to be kicking his heels in some dark, dank north Hertfordshire tin-pot third tier side who evidently think they’re too good for him.

So there.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Curse you Shaun Wright-Phillips.
I still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows another six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser.
Can tell I'm getting old knowing I watched both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old.
Magic.

Stevenage have played 12 in all comps this season, won 10, drawn 1, lost 1. Let’s focus in on our own selections before we criticise those who are clearly succeeding. Given their start, why would they change anything? And you really think Lewis is getting in ahead of our new central midfielders?

Sorry, Stevenage top of the pile so no argument in my opinion.
Weird why they took him on loan in first place, as Dutchman says they are big side with direct style so
he’s wasting his time there. Going down the road to Leyton Orient would have been a better loan option for Lewis.

And why was he missing from the Stevenage bench last evening?
Because he is with the England U20’s !

“who evidently think they’re too good for him.”

The club are top of the league – clearly they are too good for him! Why on earth would you expect him to play when they’re doing so well?

  • Dutchman says:

I watched Stevenage at Orient recently. They are a team of strapping six-footers who play a style of aerial football that would find favour with Sam Allardyce and is completely unsuited to Orford’s talents. He is wasting his time there.

Remember Dan Kemp, the diminutive midfielder in West Ham’s youth team? He is an ever present for Stevenage. You’ve no idea Dutchman.
