Former West Ham chairman David Sullivan has spoken publicly for the second time in a matter of days to reject suggestions that he still has any significant involvement in running the football club.
According to Hammers News, Sullivan gave a blunt response when asked by chief sports writer Damien Lucas about the current state of affairs at West Ham.
“I’m not involved so I do not know. Call them (Daniel Křetínský and Vanessa Gold) up and ask them.”
It’s About The Price, Not The Timing
Sullivan, who remains West Ham’s largest individual shareholder with a 38% stake, said only last week that he was stepping back and would now follow the club purely as a supporter. He also indicated he was prepared to wait until the Hammers returned to the Premier League before considering selling his shares.
Personally, I’m not convinced that’s really what this is about.
I suspect it has far more to do with the price Sullivan wants for his stake than any burning desire to hang around a football club where it’s pretty clear he is no longer wanted by either the current board or a large section of the fanbase.
His latest comments only reinforce the impression that the day-to-day running of the club now sits firmly with Daniel Křetínský, Vanessa Gold and the current ownership group.
Whether the former boss wishes he had more influence is uncertain, but Sullivan’s message couldn’t have been much clearer.
He’s out, and if anyone wants answers about West Ham’s future, they’re going to have to ask somebody else.
