Thanks as West Ham remember locked down fans

|

It’s always easier to  have a moan-up and make all sorts of false accusations and criticisms about your football club.

As a former tabloid journalist the orders always coming down from the news editor on high time and again was: “Concentrate on the negatives – people don’t want good news.”

Bad news sells, it creates controversy, upsets people, gets a reaction from those holding a different view and in general terms inevitably destabilises.

Thankfully, now and again something happens to surprise and please and as a long, long time supporter of this club that happened again just a few minutes ago.

I don’t normally take calls  from numbers unknown  but was glad I did a few minutes ago.

It was a London number and I assumed it was either from a bailiff or the law ( I JEST).

But eventually, for the first time in ages I picked up hoping it wasn’t some idiot West Ham supporter who somehow got hold of my number and has since been blocked after passing some absurd remarks.

On this occasion the call was from a very pleasant guy called Lee from the West Ham Supporters Liason Department at the club.

After some of the stuff we are led to believe from idiot social keyboard warrior fans it was a really nice gesture and a pal of the CandH Facebook group messaged me to say he’s had one too.

In difficult times when some of us are locked down and living alone it was great to be remembered by my football club.

Thanks West Ham – some can say what they like but you have always been ok by me!

Yes, it’s a nice touch from the club Hugh. My dad received a call a couple of weeks ago too.

Very nice thing for the club to do I think.

Spot on – I am a lifelong Hammer and also received a call from Lee – very pleasant lad who seemed genuinely interested in my wellbeing – our club gets a lot of stick, some warranted most not, but I wonder how many other clubs are this proactive opposite their supporters.
