The case for Antonio

|

Captain Mark Noble has been singing the praises of Michail Antonio after his goal scoring game against Leicester City at the weekend.

Speaking to the official website he said:“Michail works hard and he is strong. It was his best game for a long time and you could see that there is no end-of-season blues, because you could see what it meant to everyone.

“Me and Snods played a one-two and when I looked up I saw that he was with Ben Chilwell.

“It was a case of hanging it up for him and he is that good in the air, I knew that he is going to win it 90 per cent of the time and it worked out well.

“We are still going for it. You could see the enthusiasm to get the win. But it is hard enough to score in the Premier League as it is, but when you score an onside goal, it is frustrating.”

“We’ve had another big decision go against us to be honest. I don’t really like moaning about officials because it is such a hard job. When you are out there you don’t realise just how fast the game is played.

“But if we go 3-1 up here and we go 1-0 up at Old Trafford last week, it is a little frustrating when you work so hard and it is taken out of your hands.

ClaretandHugh says: The big question that’s been hanging over Michail Antonio’s future under Manuel Pellegrini has been his technical ability. Nobody doubts that his pace and power can be frightening when he is truly on his game and he looked great against Leicester City. The issue is though that the boss is a lover of the more gifted individuals with tight ball control which isn’t Michail’s game. However as a player who can fill a variety of positions and show the sort of form he has done over recent games he is surely a player the boss will decide to keep. We hope so. Now in his 30th year, he is not going to command a gigantic fee anyway and it would be good to believe that he will be around for a while yet. He has a contract until 2021 which could tie him to the club until he is beyond his 31st birthday. He has the tendency to blast high and wide and misplace passes but on balance he’s a player worth keeping.

I would be gutted if we sold him – and we might regret it big time

I might get panned for this but I think that Roy Hodgson is doing a good job at Palace and that we could learn some lessons from him
