The full story of an extraordinary Hammers day

|

So in the end it all turned out for the best in one of the most torturous  deadline day transfers in which West Ham has ever been involved.

West Ham signed Jarrod Bowen in a deal which, with add-ons, could see them paying out around £25 million although we understand the upfront fee was between £18-£20m.

The deal was seemingly in doubt right up until 11 pm despite the best efforts of  SSn’s Kaveh Solheko – followed by others- to assure us all was well after the player passed his medical at West Ham during the course of the day.

The reality was that he had been in Leeds all day yesterday until leaving on a train which reached King’s Cross at around 9pm.

All day long the Hammers had been dealing with his agent with the first ‘snag’ appearing when it was claimed that a 50pc cut in Bowen’s wages would be affected – like all others in the Hammers squad- should we go down.

The  pay cut was always known by all sides – what was really being discussed was a “low”relegation release clause – as it was described by a CandH source – which we now understand has been set  at around £25 million.

Whilst all this was going on Bowen was being kept out of the picture until the last possible moment as every last second was seemingly used to get his demands – including the agent’s fee!

The later it got, the easier that got!

When Bowen did finally arrive in London he was met at King’s Cross by Hammers club secretary Andrew Pincher who hustled him into a waiting blacked out cab and rushed him to the London Stadium.

The deal was was finally done at the last possible moment as the club’s media team – who had been waiting all evening – took their photos, made their videos and finally announced the news we had all been waiting to hear.

Bowen was a Hammer after rejecting – or being rejected – by both Palace and Newcastle who allegedly shied off given the agent’s required fees.

    Hugh
Can’t find anything on Sanchez going to Grenada is this correct.

Congratulations to Gold & Sullivan for delivering on the transfer window. Judging from articles on certain sites this hasn’t gone down too well with a small minority of alleged supporters .If you are a true fan of WHUFC you will be getting behind the team for the rest of the season and helping us climb the table, but if on the other hand this doesn’t suit your agenda then there are other clubs to go and see who could do with the gate money.

So despite your protests when people said he was on his way to the London stadium they were basically, correct.

    • No because they also said he was IN lONDON having had a medical at WHUFC. Keep up rather than attempt to prove us wrong for whatever reason in preference to your favoured outlets. Make it clear you are here to have a go at us rather than talk football and you are gone. There’s always Twotter

Hugh my only concern is that because of all.the agents malaki when we know Steve Bruce took him to Hull City I think from Hereford he favoured the move to Newcastle but they not go along with the agents b.sh.t so being desperate to get to the prem he chose us or rather his agent did..seen a bit of him on tv ect just hope his heart is in the WHU cause

    • I think you may have a point Whammer. However, were he super keen on Newcastle he employs the agent not vice versa and could have told him to settle with Bruce – period ??

What really amazed me was Sullivan’s willingness to risk this deal on the timeliness of British Rail. Seems amateur, given all the money involved, and the consequences of missing out. Why didn’t he arrange a car to drive Bowen down to London. Imagine how stupid he would look if the train had been delayed beyond the deadline.

Let’s be straight they have been forced to spend some money because of our position, and we are their because of their miss management, can anybody deny that ? Pellegrini should been sacked after Newcastle ,spurs or arsenal game but they divvered, they could not even get it done so available today as left it to last minute, now we have rice being dragged out to say ” fans get behind the team ” speech ,different player, different season same old same old

After my previous criticism of the Board I am delighted that they have made 2 fantastic new signings plus a decent back up keeper. Feel much more encouraged that we have the key positions filled to give us a much stronger half of the season and get us out of the relegation battle. Still lots of underperforming players who we need to get rid of but let’s get behind the team and get a win today COYI
