Time to celebrate as unwanted, unloved Hammer finds a home at last | West Ham News

After seemingly forever, one of West Ham’s most unsuccessful transfers of the modern era looks like it might soon be about to have a happy ending – in the nicest meaning of the term.

It does seem a long time since West Ham had good news on the Niclas Fullkrug front.

The German, brought in by Tim Steidten, desperate to correct the Hammers; failure to sign John Duran, has proved a spectacular £27 million flop at West Ham. Almost immediately injured and thereafter off and on the treatment table for over half of his two seasons at east London, Fullkrug managed just three West Ham goals. Scant return indeed for his £90,000 a week salary and colossal transfer fee.

An unsuccessful loan at AC Milan followed last season but seemingly, the German has found his spiritual home back in the Bundesliga where life is sweet and defenders are at least a yard slower than in the Premier League.

According to getfootballnewsgermany.com, Werder Bremen have already made up their mind about the still-on-loan Fullkrug, and it’s good news for West Ham:

“According to Sky Germany, Werder would like to retain Füllkrug after his season-long loan expires in summer 2027. Sport Bild also reports that Bremen’s management are determined to explore a permanent deal, while DeichStube suggests that both the player and the club are generally receptive to extending their cooperation”

“Pushing at an open door’ would be a fair summary of West Ham’s stance over the chance to offload Fullkrug once and for all: The Report goes on to suggest that:

“No concrete negotiations have yet taken place, however. Werder do not possess a purchase option in the loan agreement, and Füllkrug remains under contract with West Ham until 2028.“

Whilst Fullkrug might have to take another pay cut to make the deal happen, few would doubt his desire to move back to Germany and do whatever it takes to rebuild a career that seemed blighted in east London. Another of the woeful 2024 deals about to bite the dust, by the sound of it then. Good news all round.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Wish they could sign him today, before he gets injured playing for Germany and returns on premiership wages next season

Good player. Incidentally just called up for German squad.

I am gutted it never worked out with Fulkrug, I remember seeing him come on as an impact sub for Germany and he caused absolute havoc.
Massive shame he could not translate that to West Ham. Can you imagine what would have happened if we had actually signed Duran, it would have been chaos 😳

Careful with auf Wiedersehen as it means until we see each other again. Tschüß would be more appropriate for sure.
