Top Irons prospect takes scoring entirely in his stride

No dramatics at Blackburn as Xande gets on with his job

Returning to action after two months out and scoring two goals is something of an achievement at any level.

And for the Hammers fine young striking prospect Xande Silva to do so within the 50 minutes he was on the Ewood Park pitch against Blackburn under 23s was better news than any could have expected.

It’s early days of course and nobody wants to pile pressure on him but all the signs are that the £1.8 million ‘punt’ on the youngster could well off in spades for the Irons.

Silva was being touted as close to the first team squad before his injury and last night’s return will send hopes soaring again particularly with the squad in serious need of a quality striker.

Silva goes about his business in very workmanlike fashion accepting each goal with little OTT excitement and celebration beloved by some, showing a maturity which belies his 21 years.

He said: “I feel good and very happy. It took me a long time to play since being injured, so I’m happy to return like this and score two goals.

After his double last night – which took his seasonal tally to seven – he said: “We played a good game and I had those chances to score so it was good. I’m happy to be back.

He told www.whufc.com: “My legs felt tired afterwards! But of course that is normal, after the first game back from injury after two months. I need to keep working on the training pitch and then more minutes in matches will come and so will more fitness for me.

“I am looking forward to keep working hard and to our next match already. I say it every time; my job is to score goals! I’m just doing my job. Of course I’m very happy but it’s my job!”
