Tragedy hits Slaven Bilic’s former club

|

bombA twin bomb attack outside Besiktas’ new stadium in Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul, has killed 38 people and injured many more. A car bomb hit a police vehicle and a suicide bomber detonated a suicide vest in quick succession late on Saturday.

The blasts occurred near the Besiktas stadium    after a match against Bursaspor which the home team won 2-1. Thirty of those killed in the attack were police officers present for security for the match, officials say. A further 155 people including football supporters were being treated in hospital, 14 of them in intensive care, health officials say this morning.

Slaven Bilic joined Besiktas in June 2013 on a three-year contract, he managed them for two years and 91 games until leaving at the end of the 2014/2015 season after agreeing to join West Ham.

Like West Ham, Besiktas moved to their new stadium called the Vodafone Arena at the start of this season.
